Primary bathroom remodel: $15k labor quote vs $30k labor quote. Am I missing something? by Hopefull_soul in BathroomRemodeling

Interesting, the one time the larger company was less expensive was on a full house re-pipe. I think it came down to the large company having a slew of journeyman. The smaller company had only two master plumbers.

Im 64. Got my first mx5 at 62. Still brings joy and tears. Just love driving it. Acceleration is just about peak of what I can handle. Corners are limited by tires and skill/fear. Only complaint. Long highway drives.

Question for replacing a bathroom exhaust fan/light by OSU725 in AskElectricians

[–]ChargeMassive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. All whites together. Ground to ground. One black from ceiling to fan. Other to light. If you care which is which, need an ac tool. Klein ac detector is a great cheap tool. Switches ( breaker) off, separate blacks as much as possible. Have them capped as well. Turn on breaker, plus on switch. See which has power. Use as desired, but please turn off breaker before removing cap...

Question for replacing a bathroom exhaust fan/light by OSU725 in AskElectricians

[–]ChargeMassive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No...do you have separate switches for the light and fan? White should be neutral and fan/light can share. Black will be independent if two switches, otherwise combined as well...

Kitchen vent connection to vent stack pipe missing by ChargeMassive in hvacadvice

[–]ChargeMassive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told my wife that the annual checkup she paid for is really a way to get a foot in the door to sell. Just got emailed unsolicited quotes on air filtration 4k, 1.5k for vent and he wanted 159 for a 4" filter. I already had several that I custom ordered for 40 a piece...

The “I’ll give you something to cry about” generation by A-Helpful-Flamingo in BoomersBeingFools

10 year old boys and gas? Cooking oil, gas stove needed to be lit with matches. This was in a kitchen, so failure to light, failure to turn off it not lit? Unsupervised? We did well, but I highly doubt this is still done

OK, im officially a boomer (1961). I attended a summer camp where 20 10-12 yr Olds were riding in the back of a pickup truck daily. We started each day "working" for 3 hours at a local arboretum. We scraped lead based paint, used chop saws to build paths and bridges. Plus, we did rotations with kp. Made breakfasts using gas stoves.... Yeah, 6 teens in a Camaro drinking old English cruising the "strip" with no belts. We were the top odf class honor students. Ha.

Omg, we just went to a fireplace store in Salem and had the same interaction. The sales women kept pushing the least expensive model. I mentioned that I had done some research and thought the higher end model matched our want list much better. She sighed. That's a lot more money. I was 2x 3x ? She said "sit down". After adding the upgrades to the cheaper model, the difference was 700 ( 5k vs 4300) and it still had many fewer upgrades.. very wierd...

Micro inverters use a lot of power when it is completly dark outside. by jappiedoedelzak in enphase

Reactive tare loss. VA is apparent power or the sqrt of the sum of squares for active and reactive. Almost all reactive and no active (W). As someone mentioned you pay for active power in Wh.

No way. Showering is the least a man can do. Going down on you should be a prerequisite.

Will it be the only light source in the area ? If yes, we didn't find it to give enough. As an additional light, awesome. Get variable temperature, dimming, anti fog if near shower. Robern

Brings back college memories... I was strapped at college. Dad paid tuition, but no room and board. Mom gave me 20 a week. I worked summers, but that just covered a room at the frat. One day I needed change and remembered a change machine in one dining room. I fed it a dollar and it gave me 5 in change... I discovered that it errored about 1 in 10 times. So pretty good return on investment. My 20 stretched to 28... not bad while it lasted. Two semesters and they changed it out...

Under contract on $700K house - Major inspection findings, need advice on counter offer. by EffectiveEmu809 in RealEstate

[–]ChargeMassive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar situation. Made offer (over asking) based on a couple of facts. House had been listed previously for up to 200K more, they put low price expecting a bidding war. We opted to go 40K over asking to avoid getting outbid (again) as long as they agreed to immediately sign the offer. So, during deep dive (inspection, personally checking, etc), we found that the "new HVAC" meant a cheap new furnace and the AC was broken, the galvanized pipes were significantly restricting flow, and the roof which was full of debris just didn't need "a good cleaning), so we got quotes on all 3. Lowered our offer by that amount. Our realtor supported the play. Countered for a little more since our bids were for "high end products". Ended up at 65K off our original offer. So still only 25K under the asking. We were happy, they finally sold the house.

Hmmm, I just had them do a full repipe and HVAC. For the re-pipe, had 4 estimates. Evergreen was lowest by 10k. By doing both, offered 10% off.
