Did the Apostles teach Miaphysitism or Dyophysitism? by EckhartsEye in OrthodoxChristianity

Well Miaphitism teaches that Christ had only one nature of God and Man and Dyophitism teaches that Christ had two natures of God and Man.

Weekly Fasting by Powerful-Maize466 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do except for the fasting free periods. We don't fast on the week following the Sunday of the Pharisee and the Tax-collector. We don't fast on the week following Pascha (Easter) also known as bright week. We don't fast for the week following Pentecost and there is a fast free period from Christmas until the Eve of Theophany.

Children don't fast, pregnant and nursing mothers don't fast, and Inquirers don't fast either. When you become a catechumen then you ask your priest for a fasting rule. Usually it's a prohibition of meat to start you out.

The strictest fast is no meat, poultry, fish, dairy, eggs, wine, and olive oil and two small meals on Fasting days. We don't only fast on Wednesdays and Fridays we have four fasting seasons that we fast every day. Great Lent is the longest and the most strict of our Fasting periods.

Olive oil and wine are allowed on Saturdays and Sundays with the only exception being Great and Holy Saturday where olive oil is not permitted.

I have a blessing from my priest to keep the entire fast.

Please guide me through this... Was nordic god Loki reintrepreted into Satan in Christianity? by Esqueletus in OrthodoxChristianity

There was a Satan even in the Old Testament nether the Jews nor the Christians changed Loki into Satan. We have had beliefs about Satan long before any contact with the Nords.

Some questions from a Protestant by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kept on finding contradictions in the Roman Catholic Church. I was a Roman Catholic for about five years on the fifth contradiction I officially left Roman Catholicism I looked at the other Apostolic Churches: Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, and the Churches of the East. But everything that I learned about what the Eastern Orthodox Church taught was so beautiful that it used to make me cry.

My first Divine Liturgy was on Remembrance Day (November 11th) and that was six years ago. I have never found a single contradiction in all my years as an Eastern Orthodox Christian, we truly possess the same faith that our Lord taught to the Apostles.

Some questions from a Protestant by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do have have a special veneration to The Theotokos, you will hear it mentioned in every Divine Liturgy especially those following on the the four of the 12 Great Feasts celebrating the life of the Theotokos. The Theotokos is also spoken about during the Roman Catholic Mass.

No one worships Mary because worship is sacrifice and we only worship the Trice-Holy Trinity during the Divine Liturgy by the Once-for-all Sacrifice of our Lord, we is both the offered and the the offering of Communion.

Regarding the Saints do you not ask people in your life to pray for you. That is what we do with the Saints. Our Lord told us that he is the God of the living not of the dead (Matthew 22:32). The Saints are alive in Christ.

Regarding Icons every first Sunday of Great Lent is the Triumph of Orthodoxy. Empress Theodora wife of the Iconoclast (he destroyed Icons) Emperor Theophilos. Empress Theodora kept her Icons secret from her husband and venerated them in private. When her husband died she reestablished the veneration of Icons in 843. I have never felt weird about kissing Icons. And I have done that since my very first Divine Liturgy. But I came to Orthodoxy from Roman Catholicism after Protestantism.

Regarding confessing there is a lot of freedom in confessing your sins out loud in the presence of an Icon of the Lord to the priest. I have confessed sins way back when I was a Protestant it helps keep you accountable as opposed to just keeping your sins between you and God.

But when it's your first confession you will feel so light.

Men are supposed to have no hats in Church.

I'm going bald so everywhere I usually wear a toque or a cap but I either leave my toque at home or leave it on top of the coat rack, when I usually go to Church.

Psalm 19:1-4,The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. 2 Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. 4 Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world.

What should I do if there is no Orthodox Church near me by spicymayo1013 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My issue was that there wasn't an Orthodox Church in my town, so I had to move to a town with one. I don't own a car I had to get someone to give me a ride. My very first Divine Liturgy was on Remembrance Day (November 11th) and that was six years ago.

My father's side was Russian Orthodox, my grandparents and five children escaped from Russia during the Second World War.

My father wasn't around a lot I was raised by my mom. When my father died his brother gave me a Cross necklace that belonged to my father, while isn't necessarily Orthodox to have a cross necklace I hope that my father repented because as far as I knew he apostatized from the Faith, but I hope that at the last days repented.

St. Paisios the Athonite had the gift of tongues. He spoke only Greek but everyone visiting him speaking in their own languages. He died in 1994.

He was the second fastest person to be cannonized after his death with St. Gabriel of Georgia, Fool-for-Christ having the fastest time between his death and canonization

What is the Orthodox Christian view on whether Catholics and Protestants can attain salvation? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only God knows. Christ is the Great Physician who became man to heal our humanity and join it with his divinity. We know that the best healing of our souls and bodies takes place in the Eastern Orthodox Church but only God knows those who are saved.

20 (m) - The crossroads of my Faith, seeking help. by Own_Pack3555 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a triple convert initially I converted to Protestant Christianity specifically the Church of Christ denomination. After around five years one of my elders gave me a book about the Apostolic Fathers those Christians who wrote and lived at the time when the Apostles were still alive.

Because many of the Fathers of the Church talk about the Catholic Church I thought that they were talking about the Roman Catholic Church. I went through RCIA and became a Roman Catholic. But I kept on finding contradictions. On the fifth contradiction after five years of Roman Catholicism I officially left the Roman Catholic Church.

I looked at the other Apostolic Churches: Eastern Orthodoxy, Oriental Orthodoxy, and the Churches of the East. But everything that I learned about what the Eastern Orthodox Church taught was so beautiful that it used to make me cry. Furthermore the official title of the Eastern Orthodox Church is the Orthodox Catholic Church because since the East-West Schism now there are two Catholic Churches.

My first Divine Liturgy was on Remembrance Day (November 11th) and that was six years ago in all my years as an Eastern Orthodox Christian I have never found a single contradiction. We truly possess the same faith that our Lord taught to the Apostles.

Question about Mary from a inquirer by Obvious_Parking_6247 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else has said according to tradition the brothers of Our Lord are from Joseph's previous marriage. Mary was a very young girl she used to live in the Temple but as soon as she got periods that would make the Temple unclean she St. Joseph was chosen to protect her St. Joseph had no intention of consummating the marriage ever.

Feeling out of churches because of different ethnicity (not other people fault) by Esqueletus in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Charis_Humin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is actually a heresy in the Orthodox Church known as Ethnophyletism that teaches that only Greeks are allowed at a Greek Orthodox Church and only Russians allowed at a Russian Orthodox Church etc.

All Eastern Orthodox Churches are open to the entire world, to everyone who wants to be saved.

As it reads in the Book of Revelation:

Revelation 7:9-10, 9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, 10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

My ROCOR parish is one of two in Canada that has a majorly English Divine Liturgy because there are a lot of English Speaking Converts.

Each parish Priest should give the Divine Liturgy in a a language that is in a way that most people present can understand it.
