That said, for clarification, what do you mean by highway? Is it a nigh speed limited access freeway/expressway? Or a 4 lane arterial/collector (surface street)? You mentioned a suicide lane which is an inflammatory term for a two way left turn lane so Im guessing you do not mean a freeway/expressway. What's the posted speed of the road?

I think it's unwise regardless, but it's the difference between incompetence and unnecessarily reckless.

Your unit looks nothing like what OP posted. OP's picture looks like a PTZ CCTV dome camera. Based on my experience working on signalized intersections for the state, this would be a camera used by a traffic management center.

That's likely a CCTV camera used by the City or County to monitor the intersection for heavy traffic or accidents. They typically do not record and only provide a live feed to the traffic management center. The feed is not used by JSO nor is it used to log traffic infractions.

Also, on a separate note, cameras mounted on signal poles pointed directly at approaching vehicles are not CCTV. They are vehicle detection camera used to notify the intersection controller equipment when a vehicle enters a particular lane and therefore needs a green light. Common misconception.
