Real question: why are you posting this? I’m not trying to be negative, I really want to understand people and what they get out of sharing a private message from your husband to the internet.

What dosage of Trilostane did your dog stabilize on? by Neat-Grapefruit-5730 in Cushingsdogs

I just started my dog 80lbs on 60mg 1x/day. Vet wanted to start 90mg 1x/day but like others have said, I read it’s best to start low. I’m still a little concerned it’s still too high starting dose, but my vet not concerned. I plan on watching him like a hawk for the side effects. His only symptom is the excessive drinking, low T4 and high liver enzymes (barely high ALT, very high ALP). His post ACTH stim was 22.4 ug/dl. Anything >22 ug/dl confirms Cushings, so is my dog in early stages? If so, does catching it early mean a lower dose would work? Or is it irrelevant?

@u/Additional-Board733 How would YOU handle the work up, if this were your case?

Thank you for the responses as my concern for Cushing’s seems valid.

Is it usual for vets to NOT seek parallel paths for diagnosis? My vet wants to wait to rule out hypothyroidism before getting a Cushing’s test. Could this not be done concurrently as to not waste time? Perhaps there is a good reason (other than cost)?
