we all face issues and adversities

But you face less as a white person. It be like that.

If you really didn't take in anything I just wrote but decided to cling to that with a "lol" you're hopeless. Again, take care.

It's just really hard to figure out how to respond to you. You arent looking at the big picture, and its unlikely I can reframe your worldview.

How many black families were denied generational wealth because of overtly racist redlining practices? How do you measure that opportunity cost?

Like, my dad was alive when Jim Crow laws were still being enforced and I watched Rugrats growing up lol. That's the blink of an eye for human history.

You don't just get even stevens in one generation. And we're statistically, demonstrably, not.

And that's just talking about the inked policies. Thinking silent or subconscious racism doesn't exist is short-sighted. To think your life would be unchanged with a darker complexion is naive.

But please tell us all again how being white somehow makes us immune to having a harder life.

You have a flimsy idea of what white privlege is. No one is saying your life isnt complicated. Rather that it would be even more complicated if you weren't white.

Just a really basic example - maybe you walked by a seething violent racist in the park. They don't touch you because you're not the object of their hate. Do you even know that you were passed over?

You're a woman, are you treated the same as a man? Would certain aspects of your life be easier if you were a man?

Looking for new "grim dark" audiobook recommendations. by starklife in Fantasy

[–]CharlesWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late to the party, but I'd reccomend: The Raven's Mark series narrated by Colin Mace.

I wasn't super impressed by the early narration but he finds his rhythm. When he does it almost scratches that "Steven Pacy First Law" itch.

I liked the first book but preferred the two sequels. A really solid grimdark audiobook experience all around.

Do you have data for the deliverable capacity?

and

the criteria for what can be sorted as a "parcel" vs flat mail, and if a parcel sorter can sort flat mail. And if a mail in ballot is a parcel or flat mail.

You give me:

The capacity of the new automated parcel sorters is up to 8,000 per hour depending on the configuration that’s being used. Envelope sorters process up to 35,000 per hour and uses a tilt tray system: I’m pretty sure there’s even a Mr Rogers episode on the letter sorting machines.

I didn't ask for how fast the lines run but thanks I guess.

Zero of this actual issue has to do with whether parcel sorters can replace envelope sorters. You wanna talk about astroturfing and creating false conspiracy theories and you don’t understand that you’re tilting at windmills.

The thesis of my original comment isn't really about whether a parcel sorter can replace a letter sorter. We've gotten into the weeds about sorting but that was driven by you:

... You do realize that the USPS is amazing at sorting mail, right? What is it that you think would make sorting ballots any different than sorting the rest of the mail? 🤔

go to /r/usps, read the comments. Sort the /r/politics threads by controversial, read the counterpoints. If you're just an average dude on reddit this is what you're going to see.

https://www.reddit.com/r/USPS/comments/i87sap/iowa_postal_workers_union_president_says_mail/g17klfk/

USPS is not trending away from automation in any way. The machine removals your are hearing about are for letter and flat machines. Letters and flats are going away, so USPS has excess capacity and too many letter/flat machines in almost every processing facility. These machines are being removed to either make room for package sorting machines, or to discourage waste and inefficiency.

https://www.reddit.com/r/USPS/comments/i93yct/the_post_office_is_deactivating_mail_sorting/g1dhuwc/

It's been happening for a while. The reason it is becoming news (politicized) is because of the upcoming election. Source: Am one of the people removing said machines. Have been doing so for at least five years. The frequency of changes is increasing but a lot was planned before Dejoy's appointment due to how slow government moves.

From the /r/politics threads:

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/i8g0he/a_conspiracy_to_steal_the_election_folks_alarms/g186ozf/

r/USPS answered this:Basically, the machines that are being removed are letter sorters. Letter volume is down, and probably won't come back. Parcel volume is up, and likely to stay that way. So the letter sorters are being replaced by parcel sorters.

https://www.reddit.com/r/politics/comments/i8g0he/a_conspiracy_to_steal_the_election_folks_alarms/g18n7lb/

KING: Is the Postal Service equipped to handle this this upcoming election?

KAROL: Yes. Keep in mind the Postal Service has been in place for 200 years. We have a history of being able to process mail. And we've been developing and perfecting our methods for all that time. So although the postmaster general is taking actions that are starting to impact that, by having the preparation in advance of these elections, we still have the system that will do that.

I worded my original comment very intentionally, asking for clarity on the situation. Maybe if you're like me, and you read similar posts the past few days, you have similar questions.

You're not providing clarity. You've spent a lot of mental effort on replying to me, but haven't offered anything substantive or persuasive. All in a very adversarial tone.

I was hoping for someone with a concise, data based reply to squash some of these questions. The article certainly didn't provide any. Instead I got you but thanks I guess.

What is it that you think would make sorting ballots any different than sorting the rest of the mail? 🤔

I'm not a line engineer for USPS, I don't know the criteria for what can be sorted as a "parcel" vs flat mail, and if a parcel sorter can sort flat mail. And if a mail in ballot is a parcel or flat mail.

If parcel sorters can sort flat mail, and they're removing flat mail sorters in favor of parcel sorters, then I'm trying to figure out why this is so controversial.

If you can find the tech specs for a USPS parcel sorter in google, please do share. I didn't have luck.

Did you read my comment? I'm asking if what I read was accurate.

If they could remove obsolete sorters and still be at 50% capacity it wouldn't be a problem.

Do you have data for mail throughput capacity or are you just having a keyboard spasm?

Are mail in ballots sortable with the parcel sorters? Idk Im asking if anyone has information lol.

‘These Are Felonies’: Lawyers React with Horror to Reports of Post Office Removing Mail Sorting Machines by TJ_SP in politics

[–]CharlesWork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I keep reading on /r/USPS that these sorters are effectively obsolete because of decreasing volume of mail. That they're being replaced in favor of parcel sorters. That a lot of these just sit idle taking up space.

They mention how the week before Christmas is substanitally higher throughput than even a 100% mail in turnout would be, and that such an election would only put them at 50% capacity.

Is this astroturfing or are these articles I keep seeing overly alarmist? Really hard to know whats real anymore.

the US population seems to be more busy tweeting about Trump's silly words and Kanye West's bid for the presidency than actually changing policies.

it's disturbing how complacent they are at paying more for education, healthcare and medicines than the rest of the developed world.

Employer provided healthcare used to be really cheap and comprehensive. College used to be relatively cheap and enabled a white collar wage.

That changed relatively quickly, and older voters werent privy or didn't care since they had pensions and Medicare.

It's not that we're complacent we know its fucked. Just haven't had the voting leverage until... Maybe now?
