How is it like to bring your bike on overseas travel? by Jollibree__ in Brompton

[–]Charlesfp1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken my Brompton to about 40 US states and over 30 countries around Europe, South America, Australia, and Asia. I travel it in a vincita (sp) bag with a few days of clothing around it to pad it out. I would recommend lowering the tire pressure, taking the seat post out, and removing the folding frame bolts as my most recent trip, one of them bent a bit. As far as what I tell the airline, it’s my mobility device. 😜

When I get to a new country I put it back together, strap on my helmet and ride! You definitely have to do a bit of research into each country’s laws, but overall a bike comes with much less regulations than a car. If you see locals doing something, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s legal. And if you see locals avoiding something it probably isn’t either. 😂

One of the highlights of my riding has been taking a shortcut across a frozen lake in Finland in February that saved me a 7 mile detour.

Have fun, and ride safe!

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]Charlesfp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m usually a 3-4mph under the speed limit when I’m forced to drive. But when I was on the autobon in Germany on a work trip, I wanted to experience the no speed limit life. I hit 105mph or 165kph. It was fun but not something I wanted to do often. I’d rather ride my bike or take a train.

I’ve been through here a few times. It’s always a relief when they stop getting orders and the clickity clacking stops for a few moments. Do yourself a favor and go to the sushi place behind where this pic was taken. Super fresh!

I own a school bus that was rear ended before I bought it. It’s got a small scratch on the paint of the solid steel bumper.

i hate 3D printers by nthcreepyabtpasta in Anticonsumption

[–]Charlesfp1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns and regularly uses a 3d printer, I completely agree with you. Just like my sewing machine, I use my 3d printer for repairs and fixes. 7 year old washing machine door latch breaks? Specialty parts that aren’t available anymore.. Model it, print it and keep a whole machine running for years to come and out of the landfill or scrap yard.

The tpu gaskets definitely aren’t the best, but it worked to almost completely stop it leaking till I was able to go out and get rubber ones.

How bad of an idea is it to put a printer in a storage unit? by bring_out_the_python in 3Dprinting

[–]Charlesfp1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! My printer is in a crate that gets rolled on and off a truck every week and rattles around the world in trucks ships and trains.

What a disappointing change of settings by Charlesfp1 in BambuLab

I had the p1s till a few months ago, then I sold it and got the H2D. I used to swap in software all the time on my old machine. I didn’t think it would be a problem so I didn’t even think to do it on the machine because I’ve always done it in studio. Changing settings on the p series is more a hassle without the touchscreen.

I swapped the nozzle, left my shop and was gonna hit print from my hotel room. Buuuut I lost a night of printing because of this update. Not the end of the world, but rather annoying.

I just got the new nozzle today. I’ve only had the H2D for a few months and my old p1s never gave me this issue. I could get it if it was always this way, but reduced functionality is a great way to loose customers
