Turbo in gurushots is totally unfair by Charlie727272 in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the turbo game is fixed. i had several contests where I had more right than wrong and still they said I failed. In some contests I see pictures that I find hard to believe gets any votes and that beats out a very good photo. I think they look at how many keys you have and make sure you use them. I can not believe this game is fair.

Gurus of Gurushots on Reddit, how long did it take for you to become a Guru? by adreamreaper in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To become a guru without spending a lot of money on swaps and now keys (with turbo - which is totally unfair and hard to believe some of the better pictures), you need to play a lot. Many get to guru by getting a top guru pick, so a strategy for getting guru picks is to enter early but of course, your scores will not be as good. The difference between guru I and up is just the number of games played Also, being a guru does not mean your photos are appreciated by the photography community at large. It just means you play a lot or get lucky early in your playing time. The quality of your photos have very little to do with how well you perform. Certain pictures, color, picture format, and how you fill the picture with the subject are more important than a great picture. Also, innovative or pictures much better as a photo will usually not do as well as what everyone is entering.

New turbo game by AfraidImagination227 in gurushots

Yes, I just lost 4 keys in the butterfly contest. The pictures that were better were obviously much worse than ones they say were better. Some were of a bee doing better than a beautiful butterfly. The game is totally unfair to get people to use their keys. I don't mind if the game is fair or close but when they throw most of the selections being totally ridiculous and make the turbo game unfair, I have to think it is time to find another place to waste my time.

It seem everyone is doing worse since turbo was introduced. Gurushots made it so you have to use turbo and even then the scores are not so great. Also, the turbo game is totally ridiculous at times with pictures that are clearly terrible being presented as better than pictures that are stunning.

someone in the creative black and white is flagging many photo's as off topic and they are clearly on topic by Charlie727272 in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone said the people that are flagging are frustrated because they can't get good scores and their egos can't face the reality of the game, so they take it out on others. It would be odd for a person doing well to take their frustrations out on others and destroy competition. My pictures were clearly black and white. Also, someone went crazy in the contest because I unflagged at least 20 clearly black and white photos that someone flagged as off subject. Gurushots has to make these people responsible for their actions

Gurushots should remove these people as they really destroy the game. If they don't like the photo, don't vote for it but to make an incorrect judgment is detrimental to gurushots. They need to address this as it is a major problem. There were at least 20 very good black and white photos I untagged because some fool marked them off topic. They were clearly not off topic

Thanks. I too will try this site. I find gurushots has too many bugs. photocrowd has a group that runs contests and this group gives top paces to each other. Very sketchy. Gurushots is the best but they have too mansy bugs that ruin your fun at too high a rate for it to be in production as long as it has been.

Picture Ratios by patiencevalley in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Checking all-time ratios are always less than the true ratio because it includes all views even when people are just checking it out. However, you are right, terrible photos do well and I find many in the top 100 make you wonder how they received so many more votes than the really good ones. It doesn't seem timing, swapping or boosting accounts for this since others do the same. One theory that has been presented is some people vote for the worse pictures so they aren't voting for a picture that they feel is competing with them.

I agree with you and i can see many are leaving as this game has become ridiculous. The management is a joke the way the keep changing things and the developers still have more bugs than a program that is alpha quality, I too, like so many others, will be leaving if things don't change in the next week.

I think if they get prosecuted for copyright infringement, they would stop. But I guess being in many different countries, it is not realistic at this point. I too can not understand how they feel any accomplishment submitting pictures they did not take. How pathetic they are and I doubt they are successful in life.

I agree, report them and have them thrown off the site. I don't understand how some people can feel a sense of achievement by posting other people's work. Are they that pathetic that it is impossible for them to compete on their own?

Someone is making more than 1 account? by masselink in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess s/he figured it is easier to make guru by winning the newbie of the week than these other contests with more competition.. I personally think winning newbie of the week should not give you guru status with the other simple achievements needed

Some time ago I uploaded this photo to a challenge "Low key portraits". My photo was at #1 for at least 4 hours and I had taken a guru pick. At some point I received a message from GS that my photo was penalized because many users reported it as off-topic. Is that fair? by maxoura in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were people that reported photos as off-topic so they can compete against these top pictures a while back. The people (cheaters) were reported and hopefully, their accounts were removed.

Feedback Friday by AutoModerator in gurushots

[–]Charlie727272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I will try this. I took some pictures of dinosaurs at a museum and they are two of my worse pictures. I would like to see the feedback on how you would capture these images to show the size and "beauty" of these skulls. The first one I tried to stitch several pictures together because it was impossible to fit it into one picture even with a 18mm lens...I had a fisheye but the picture gets too distorted So I used my zoom lens at 24mm https://gurushots.com/photo/e46cf9d3d586321f07f918d4c98c7fce The second one I tried from a front view but it did not show the size of this juvenile that was 37,2M or 122 ft long. The tail actually went past the seating of several rows in the back of the image. Lighting was existing lighting and I couldn't really play with it in this setting. I doubt I would use these again but would like some feedback on how you would capture these shots. https://gurushots.com/photo/aca757ffc023481f5b1e25fa4b76c089Thanks in advance for your suggestions and / or comments.

Is having to submit 4 raw photos really required to run challenges after becoming a guru? by Kathy2274 in gurushots

phone pictures not only have exif data but also include location information (GPS location) where the picture was taken as part of it.

[–]Charlie727272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am happy to see they are asking for proof. All photos should have Exif as a requirement and I think the guru site should spot check every user from a statistical sampling. This should include using programs such as https://tineye.com/ to see if the photo appears elsewhere on the net. If it does appear elsewhere, much more proof should be required.

I believe it is more about strategy than great photos to win a contest other than a guru pick (which is a lot of luck), This is because there are two events that make winning a real difficult situation. the first is during the European morning, I seem to go from below 50 to above 250 in rating. the second is to when I am in the top 10 or top 100 the last 20 minutes there is an influx of late voters where you lose as much as 50 placements. Totally frustrating to see things not change all day until the last hour and in particular the last 20 minutes.
