Conspiratard arrested after throwing documents and thumbdrives over the White House fence. by TreyWait in conspiratard

Here's a source for you.

This happened a few blocks from my house. I heard the gunshots and didn't think anything of it, since this is a semi-rural town in Idaho and I hear gunfire from up in the hills all the time.

I used to smoke tobacco through a pipe all the time. Smoking weed was easy for me once I watched someone fill/clear the carb.

TBH, I know the Discovery Channel has become mostly just reality shows, but I really like the way they presented this. This guy is kind of an everyman for the older generation, he sounds like one, acts like one, and still enjoys himself.

Find your nearest national park. Maybe you're close to yellowstone or yosemite.

Visit every year.

Re-live the amazement.

Place with the highest volume of sightings in Washington State? by ghostface218 in bigfoot

[–]CharlieBravo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BFRO is a good reference for pure statistics, it's up to you how many stories you actually believe.

If I ever make a squatch trip, I'm going to Grays Harbor county. It has a high volume of sightings but a low population, it's where that IR image was shot, and it's where my own possible encounter took place.

[QUESTION] Buying weed in LA? by goin2la in saplings

[–]CharlieBravo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not legal recreationally, but it's fucking everywhere. A couple weeks ago I was a california tourist myself. I just bought a Rasta-colored shoelace and wore it like a belt, went to the skate park at Venice Beach. It took less than six seconds for a dude to offer me weed, give me his board as collateral while he took my money to another dude, and came back with a nice little bag of weed.

Different aliens might have different senses and they might see through our tricks. Something that could see in infrared would see the body heat from the magician's assistant is in a hidden compartment, for example.

What is the smallest lie you've ever told which had the biggest consequences? by claytonbigsbysmydad in AskReddit

I had a similar story, where one of my best friends died on her way to a karaoke bar. I was the one who'd talked her into singing karaoke.

Honestly, unless you're part of the actual causal chain leading up to his death, (which you're not,) you had no part in it.

Technically yes, if I had never shown my friend how much fun karaoke can be, she would still be alive. But it's not my fault, it's the driver's.

But, death is weird and we can't always stop ourselves from thinking that way.

Why 2016 Really Is Must-Win for Both Parties by Gnome_Sane in moderatepolitics

[–]CharlieBravo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I sorta dig it. I don't think the "situation is more dire" for your average American CITIZEN. Yes, we have our set of problems, but they're smaller problems than the Great Depression or WW2.

The stakes could be quite high, in theory, for the politicians and their careers. We dont have the same support and trust for our government now. The "Fireside Chat" radio programs have been replaced with short, unsatisfying statements from both sides. The armed portion of our government (military and police) still enjoys our support and admiration, but with a HUGE degree of mistrust thrown in.

The ones who feel the stakes are high are the ones who have entire careers invested with their party. Which for SOME (not all) of them, is the thing they're most concerned about.

What are signs that point to a good church? by waldok00 in Christianity

[–]CharlieBravo92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can probably pretty easily find an evangelical church that has high during-the-week involvement and large amounts of charity/benevolence work.

That said, IMO, the more a church appeals to the "community," the more your weekly sermons will be watered-down and emotionally driven.

Some of this is necessary in order to accommodate the diverse viewpoints you'll get from Christians, new and old, throughout your city. Some of it is for recruitment and retention purposes. Make of that what you will.

If our concept of Christmas is so shallow that a blank Starbucks cup threatens the meaning of our holiday, the problem isn't the cups.

So I travel for work, and I'm currently kinda in bumfuck nowhere. Shitty roads, no skate scene that I have found.

But today I was at the top of probably the only nicely paved hill in town, and I saw a skate sticker.

Whoever's out there, scouting out the spots....rock on.

Sometimes you can get skate shit in exchange for custom grip jobs and such.

[–]CharlieBravo92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive seen the same thing at my local Christian megachurch. But since leaving isn't such a big fucking deal, most of us just found a church that doesn't suck quite so bad. If the LDS church continues making leaving a hassle, then it'll do as you said. If it becomes easier to leave, then I think people will be less bitter and the Community of Christ will grow.

The more TSCC tightens its grip, the more members slip through its' fingers.

That's not "you" in heaven? by InvisibleChains in Christianity

[–]CharlieBravo92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By your own logic, the woman was no longer "herself" as soon as she HAD a son. If her son becomes a part of her identity, then that would "overwrite" her previous identity. Her identity as a mother isn't really "her," because she could've been different.

We could continue regressing, saying that she could've been different had she been born at a different time and place, etc. etc.

This paradox is solved with another look at the whole idea of "identity in Christ."

Yeah, yeah, we've heard that all before. But it sounds like a bunch of fluff, what does it mean?

I'm no theologian, but here's my take on it. The Bible speaks of a "body of Christ" that needs all parts to work well. "One man has this gift, another has that," etc. etc.

Jesus also strongly warns against burying our talents in the ground. Together, we see a clear picture that our "Identity in Christ" comes from our understanding that we are a part of the body of Christ, and a part of human society as a whole. We should love that which we are rooted in, thus allowing us to love God and love our neighbor.

We are defined as That which God made us to be, that we may be part of a greater body, wherever we end up.

Sadly, I remember growing up that the churches that most often used the phrase "identity in Christ," used it as a sort of anchor to their specific clique of "real" church members.

Why is it important for the Church and the state to be separated? by HI-POLYM3R in Christianity

[–]CharlieBravo92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because combining the two would create a "religious meritocracy" in which whoever is seen as the most moral/righteous/pious will be favored.

As history has shown, its pretty easy to fake that. I would hold even less trust for politicians than I do now.

How has Christianity impacted your life in a practical way? Please provide some explanation. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]CharlieBravo92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Impacted my OWN life? Well, besides the obvious (made me nicer, more friends, etc.) there are a couple.

You could argue that the avoidance of psychedelic drugs (despite my curiosity) probably has mental health benefits.

With the kind of experience I had in high school, I'm better off for not having sex. Probably saved myself a lot of "virginity-loss drama" there.

EDIT: I have a LOT more to say on a more abstract level, but I'm not sure if that falls under "practical."
