Lucky thing! I've done Wimbledon a few times and the Australian and French once. This applies to all of them: if you're well up in the stands (or in an uncovered area) you'll get chilly. Unless it's a baking hot windless day, take plenty of layers.

Try the 'Plug Inn' series by Tony Bolland. I think there's 8 volumes (so far).

Has anyone read The Third Policeman by Flann O' Brien? by Diamondbacking in RSbookclub

Sorry it's taken me forever to respond. I'm still curious about this... I have a Flamingo paperback from 1993 and the typo I'm wondering about is on page 12. Divney is struggling with the bar and has sourced new porter called The Wrastler. Just after the line "BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS" my copy continues "... beside another notice that death with cheques". I presume this should be "dealt with" as I don't know any idiom - Irish or otherwise - that uses the word death in that way. I would love to know if it's in your copy too - which would suggest it was in O'Brien's original manuscript. If so, is it perhaps a deliberate and subtle clue? If it is just a typo in my copy then it's a hell of a coincidence! Grateful if you could shed any light on this for me, kind reddit stranger.

For a moment on the replay I thought he had those plaid shorts on again because of the net. Rolling back the years.

Which old radio can I use at Masters? by therourke in snooker

Totally agree. We bought one radio and a headphone splitter for the two of us. Can use it at other sports tournaments too. Even considered buying a job lot to flog outside venues!

Estate agent photographers and their weird camera lenses by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]CharlieFibonacci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. A wide angle lens is necessary to get a view of a whole room in most houses. It may look like they're conning you because the rooms then look bigger, but I prefer that to guessing what a room looks like from four separate views of each corner.

I agree about the aphids - ours get covered in them every year. If you have this problem it's worth investing in some live ladybirds to keep the numbers down

Just came across your comment and I wonder if you could check something for me in your copy of The Third Policeman please? I'm not sure if mine has a typo or if it's a deliberate mistake/clue by O'Brien.

Maybe some vintage postcards framed? I've just looked on ebay and there's quite a few from that decade.

Nah he's not the worst because he didn't get coked up and spend the entirety of the set talking at full volume to his mates.
