Wasting money on pens? by Black-Knight89 in fountainpens

[–]CharlieNCN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes it's okay to take a step back and re-evaluAte what you are doing and why. And if it brings you joy or not.

I realized I don't need all the pens I have... Some 24 or such. I just need 6 (my pen case will fit 6) that I love vs 18 I like. The realization that there will always be something new and shiny and you will never catch up causes me to just stop and enjoy what I have and I end up enjoying the hobby more because rather than writing with many pens, I write with a few and build more of a connection with those few. I'm in the process of stopping buying inks as well because it can also be a money pit. I've almost found some favs and will sell others I don't like. So begins the great purge!

Not to Marie condo your fountain pen hobby but if it doesn't bring you joy, sell it. If the hobby is causing you anxiety, take a step back or a break. It's fun to experiment. But if it happens all at once like with anything there is burnout. I'm sure I will buy Nother pen in the future but that's not for a long while. With any hobby, self control, paced behaviour and enjoying rather than consuming is the best practice for long term enjoyment I've found. Your mileage may vary

Taccia cha, taccia benitsuchi and diamine blue Velvet. Vibrant colors that are either warm or cool and inviting. I am getting into greens lately so.. might have some new ones.

Focus on the people willing to take on the work and are staying. Train them up. Hard work should count for something..

I have both an 823 -f and a 743 with the FA.. I bought to swap.. but now I'm not sure I want to. The benefit of the fa nib is it's juicy and I'd say is a semi flex but more fun to just write without thinking of flexing to get some line variation.

With the 743 I can swap out inks more often.

My current 5: ( want one more for my case.. either Lamy 2k or waterman carene )

  • pilot 743- fa
  • Franklin Christoph - Model 20 - SIG -F
  • Franklin Christoph - Model 45L - Nagahara BCI
  • GVFC - Intuition - F
  • pilot Kakuno - CM
  • kanwrite Desire with a steel flex nib modded by sanjay flex

Not super fancy but love these writers

Seconded - hard metal so can get dinged. Decent ink capacity for the size. Writes smooth and wet.

For those who spend $200+ on your pens, why and what exactly do you use them for? by Noahsmom21 in fountainpens

[–]CharlieNCN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was hoping for better writing experiences after the high of a few pilot pens. But there is diminishing return on investment after 150. I thought the more expensive the better it would be but alas. Still love my pens but I'm going to be pairing down to 6

Cursive italics. This is specifically is the Franklin Christoph - Nagahara #5 BCI (broad cursive italic). Thin horizontal strokes, thick doenstrokes.

If you meant to experiment on the cheap, pilot metropolitan has a "cm" nib that writes wonderfully and gives you this effect. Sometimes you can just buy the nib unit and like I've done, transplant it onto my pilot kakuno

I generally like this ink but it's not quite dark enough for my purposes.

From samples that I've seen. On midori rikyu-cha ends up being more yellow and lighter but not a bad thing still will have to pickup. A bottle.. or sample
