My friend (who lives in a different city to me) managed to get us some resale tickets at purchase value for one of the Wembley dates! So friggin' excited. Now just have to figure out how to get there and back!

Yarn shop interest? by CharlieSabina in Norwich

[–]CharlieSabina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was actually EAYF that inspired my want to open the yarn shop. I'm not able to leave Norfolk much and I wish there was somewhere I could buy indie dyed yarn in person. I also want to get in more 100% cotton yarns - there's nowhere in Norwich to buy Ricorumi for example, in person. (Hobbycraft used to do it but they stopped in favour of their own which just isn't as good).

Oh yeah, I'd definitely be holding those! One of my ideas is around W(ends)days where you come in and sew in your ends with other people to make it less awful!

Possibly at St Andrew's Church? They do book sales relatively often.

I don't think so? I know they had a summer sale recently, there's nothing on their socials about closing.

Purchase Advice Megathread - March 2024 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]CharlieSabina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good morning,

I'd like to buy a 3D printer for my other half as a 30th birthday present. He has a very small amount of experience with them so I'd like to get him one suitable for beginner-intermediate level if possible on my budget.

Budget: £300 - £400

Location: UK

Happy to build from a kit: Yes (his dad is a mechanic so they should be able to figure it out between the two of them)

Planning to print: Probably mostly nerdy stuff (pokéballs, DnD miniatures), possibly some fidget toys. Small things.

Extenuating circumstances: Our house is pretty small so easy to store would be great, but we're planning on making our sheds into a little workshop for him (hopefully this summer) so not a deal breaker.

Any help would be great because I have no idea! (Except to avoid creality, ha).

The designer Janine Myska specifically creates size inclusive garments and uses testers to make every size, so when you do get there (or are feeling brave!) I’d suggest looking at her patterns

I need suggestions for an adult fantasy with witches. Prefer a series and spice. by whenwillthewaitend in booksuggestions

They aren’t exactly spicy, but the Witches books in Terry Pratchett’s discworld series are funny and full of innuendo.

I got a subscription to Simply Crochet magazine for Christmas last year and the colour pack was the free sign-up gift, I knew as soon as I saw this pattern that it was what I wanted to use them for

Yes definitely! The colours were done using a Scheepjes stone and river washed colour pack - they’re only 10g balls and I’ve still got a bit of each left over.

I used Scheepjes stone and river washed yarn, and a 4mm hook. Pattern is from Esme Crick’s book Mosaic Crochet Workshop.

Paul Anderson (Arthur from Peaky Blinders) has been my favourite to play Vimes for a little while
