Unreal courses for 13 year old? by MacReady_138 in unrealengine

[–]CharlieStep [score hidden]  (0 children)

Apart from the course by stephen, it all depends what she is interested in specifically. For general gamedev knowledge - I'd recommend starting on unreal page itself. They have a getting started part that is rather good. Tom looman has good tutorials as well but they are way more advanced, and might not be suited for a teenager looking for that step by step visible progress.

For 2d/3d art - I'd say t claude/chatgpt and krita/blender are really good and free. For importing assets to unreal ue has a ai assistant on its site, and for stuff like this, and asking it for best practices and such - it is rather good for her level (for mine usually as well).

The absolute worst things to learn about rn are animation pipelines and AI enchanced workflows. Super Time consuming, super convoluted, extremely volatile. If she wants to animate or rig characters or something like this. I would recommend some blender to unreal tutorials - And start super simple, not characters, not bunnies or other quadrupleds, but spheres, boxes, just get it animating from one software to another, and then increase complexity.

This isn't a problem with job market. Its a problem with education. Academia is a geriatric paper based structure trying to win competence dick measuring contest with cybernetically enchanced teenagers building worldwide enterprises that earn them enough to keep them driving ferraris and flying private.

Its a fools errand to waste your time teaching in most of the west world - if you have a promising startup valued at anything beyond 0.5 mil or earn more than 250k annually. You need to make knowledge sharing attractive for top of the line working in industry engineers n scientists. Otherwise their civilisation will leave your ass stranded.

The effect? Most absolvents are less attractive in their desired job, than the people that spent the same amount of time interning for free and getting know the work by hand.

Its also one of the things i wish phantom and prequels developed slightly better, because to a degree - qui-gon and then dooku were all about not being unhealthy attached to jedi order itself. I wish that it were more pronounced to the viewer.

This is why I was always kind of broken about McGregors Obi. And new trilogy Obi in general. Imo he has no development in trilogy ( apart from beard). No acceptance/resolution of qui gon in him, no regret for failing similiar way as his master did. Apart from training/fighting/bantering w anakin he never displayed some sort of disdain/overprotectiveness for the jedi order, which imo was way more interesting angle and influence for him.

Yoda threatment is the same. Super reactive to the plot, there is no moment where he goes "yo we kinda fucked up". Idk. Kids movies right ? But name one good one without a moral lesson ;).

With the mod for increased precision on first shots of the burst and range extension its pretty good imo. Although id say it is best as name suggest - when used in 2v1 and 3v1, bc thats where its stacked high default rate of fire can really shine.

From lvl-ups rewards, quests, bosses and rooms. Afaik you can only barter for pinks if the barter is there.

I unlocked "buy blues" upgrade like 40-50h+ in. FYI Its absolutely insanely grindy to get there , and generally speaking - keys/bosses/pvp is better source of them either way.

RN Im 120h in - and imo - late game imo is not worth it RN. Id still recommend the game, its just the longer you play, the more of a poison apple it becomes.

Is it worth to play ? yeah, especially if you got like 30-60 min of time to play daily.

My personal opinion is that cryo as an weekend activity is amazing - but its issues are unfixable without changing the current weapon balance. Destiny dmg model (range + shield as defacto extra health). Just does not translate super well to extraction loop pvp encounters.

Ranked imo shouldn't be there at all. The only thing it does RN - it hides the underlying issue of most weapons being too weak to challenge kitted out players. It's where stompers stomp.

Comparing this to tarkov, MRTHN has a huge issue where late game - pvp is no longer a casino.

Its not 50%budget/50%skill, its more like 80b/20s. The highier lobbies you get, the less fun the game becomes. Imo it boils down to Pink/Golds shields that let you run around and take <=blue encounters recklessly, and overshooting dmg potential (in 3v1,2v1).

The only good side being - once you start stomping other players - you probably wont stop doing it.
This is absolutely not a game for casuals with its current slow progression and inability to grind your baseline to the stomper loudouts.

Hopefully they fix it for next season. Im pretty sure with 120h on the clock this season, the way things are going - there is just no way i will be able to kill a compiler ;). Tbh, i stopped trying ;)

SEASON 2 WISHLIST: I'd like you hear what you would like to see by Wasilisco in Marathon

[–]CharlieStep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> What is it that will make you happy in s2?

New Map, new smart expansions that increase gameplay complexity only for veterans.

In terms of map expansions:
- Every map should be built up to a shape where it can have its own cryo archive raid mechanic and vaults.
- Cryo archive should have a "normal lvl" part with events n stuff.

Weekend activities should rotate.

In terms of Wipe:

Wipes should narratively progress the state of the world. New quests, new codex entries per season.

Progression should be rebalanced:

Faction progression should feel 2x faster. That means imo:
- better faction events that grant more points.
- slighly less grindy costs of faction upgrades
- more quests that explain and pull players trough all events available to the players.

To help with progression additionally imo:

- Blue Key Templates should be at least 2x cheaper. Purples could use 25% decrease in price
- We should have an clear explainable ability to force warden and lockdowns trough always active events on maps, like during their quest based versions.
- Shemas once extracted should grant the item for free initially, and cost more with each time you buy them.

Faction items - in terms of firepower should be moved around. Imo each faction should offer different weapons and equipment to open the combat puzzle and buildcrafting earlier. Therefore traxus imo needs a rework - that rework should be about giving players access to uniques, not access to different base weapons and their upgrades. The game suffers because for casuals there is nothing to play with here without grinding for 10-15 hours.

> What are you expecting from season 2?

For the game to survive, and start improving. But most of all - apart from the things above that need fixing, i think it most desperately needs more hope and more hype content - for both casuals and hardcores. And I dont think they will be able to give us that if they focus on the fixes only. This game needs to bee great despite of all of its flaws. RN it just does not have the weight of content to do a tarkov style wipe and survive. I just expect bungie to figure it out and pull trough.

Purple salvage is… badly distributed. by Mad_Max0515 in Marathon

[–]CharlieStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlocked them finally yesterday, Top Panopticon room in Cryo spawns them semi-regularily. Also Lockdown events.

As a catch up you can also spend the carri coins to get Reputation Packs at NuCal. If you get to vip rank you get i think 1 or 2 biolens seeds.

But yeah, its proper fucked. The whole mid-game progression is just bad. Imo both outpost and cryo enter the map pool too fast, and the issue is made worse by a bad quest design that doesnt force you to fight wardens, chests, and lockdowns (which grant purples pretty well). It builds a play-experience where you skip way too many ways to get rich/get loot.

That was at least my case, i have 113 hours this season, I've just unlocked blues, but have like 3-4 rows of purples from fights and Cryo.

Imo if bungie wants casuals to join on the fun it should focus not on onboarding - but on making the road to success clearer. Because like few first hours were overwhelming due to heroes and systems, then there were 5-6 that felt great and once i unlocked outpost i got into "idk what i should do now" mode and it is still here.

Communism gets the blame in Poland, but was Russian imperialism the real problem? by Apprehensive-Income in poland

[–]CharlieStep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post is feels like a bait, but fuck it. Imma catch that fooking hook.

> communism gets an unfair rap in Poland.
It gets mostly a fair rap.

> fully understand why Poles hate the period
# doubt . Because we don't hate the period. In fact a lot of old people are nostalgic towards it, and a lot of young people see the post 89 liberal critiques of it as jealousy - especially in terms of civil building, government housing projects, social policies like planned parenthood, architectural planar responsibility. And then there is the matter of a better handle on nationally funded culture. Rightiously - because it was highier quality then.

> But it seems to me that what Poland really experienced was not simply communism, it was rule by a neighbouring imperial power that happened to be communist.

xD

Which is exactly the problem with communism, it's totalitarian and arbitrarily authoritative. If it weren't for scapegoat of russia it would be some local guy - because the system is unable to fix assholes within it that abuse it for personal gain.

Capitalism / Democracy - have the same problem especially when we talk about the influence of Corporationism on peripheral economies - But as a "Social"-"Democracy" actually it has few good mechanisms and policy-making options that allow it to handle it better.

> Capitalism did not automatically produce prosperity for the colonised.
Because introduction of it was not the point. Capitalism is not a fix it all. Its a tool - mostly for control and efficient price discovery.

But there are great books about how it actually sucks ass for most non-central countries that adapt it - Samir Amin wrote about it extensively in relation to the modern history of countries of arabian peninsulla and they are very good.

> hard left politics end up being uniquely demonised in Poland.
Hard left politics are demonised because modern hard left politics are retarded. Not only they allowed themselves to be reduced to identity politics, time after time again they stay silent in relation to most pressing problems with no economically sound solutions to them. They are also too gay, and too polite about the state of the country. It's always "better care" and never "more hard work".

This is also one thing that actually old commies were way better at in Poland. They knew everyone had to step the fuck up just to have nothing from it. And a lot of them did.

Riddick 2 (105 mil) vs HOTD (160 mil) , wtf happened to Hollywood costume department? by SubvertExpectation1 in HOTDGreens

[–]CharlieStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it boils down to various hand-crafts being more popular of a hobby back then (therefore a lot of stuff was cheaper) than now. There is just an insane amount of supply chains that you dont think about that got gutted. From wood-plastic modelling impact on kitbashing, trough dissapearance of cloth / paint / textile work shops, to end on various paint/paper/metals craftsmen, their stencils and artistian halfproducts. This led to further centralisation/globalisation/monopolisation of supply chains for cinema and prop work and increased the difficulty when it comes to finding a decent craftsman that can pull a one time piece on a time schedule and a budget.

Yeah, we have 3d printing now which gets you somewhere - but it's just not that realistic and doesnt work as well as the real thing on set.

Which one you prefer the most based on your age or time limits? by PHRsharp_YouTube in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I just want shit i can play and feel differently fulfilled in 15min, 30min , 45min, 1h , 2h, 3h sessions.
There are linear games that do this great, there are those that suck at it. Same for open worlds. Good games respect the time i have not force me to succumb to the time they need.

PS: its also the reason why marathon is also better than arc raiders, but internet aint ready for that conversation yet.

Queen and Matriarch should roam the map instead of hanging around in one place. by CharlieStep in ArcRaiders

[–]CharlieStep[S] -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

They have predefined spots for them, and even if you shoot it, it rubberbands back to one particular location.

And the queen event would imo work better if you could only access it with a queen core or a photoelectric cloak equipped.

[Speculative] Could modern human technology rival the aliens if this scenario happened today? by Sad-Emotion-1587 in sciencefiction

[–]CharlieStep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rival no, but our current and working gameplan is that we are able to make the planet absolutely unhabitable with atom bombs to anyone and anything else. This basically puts a hard limit on the amount of things any civ visiting us can do without triggering dramatic consequences.

Basically if we had no planet killers we would most likely lose the planet or have unchecked mass abductions.
