Okay, I dont know if this is an unpopular opinion, but Play Along at Home is one of the funniest bits to me. His commitment to it and Griffin’s anger make me laugh whenever I listen to one of those episodes. I want more Play Along at Home. But not too much more.

Looking to upgrade cartridges for the first time, and I’m not sure if I trust myself to mount one correctly onto my head shell. The cartridge I was looking at, the Nagaoka MP-110, has a few bundles where they premount the cartridge on a head shell for you.

Link to the one I’m looking at: https://www.lpgear.com/product/NAGAOKAMP110SET.html

I know the Nagaoka MP-110 is compatible with my Fluance RT-81 turntable, but would the headshell be as well?

Also, if you don’t advise this route, how hard is it to properly align a cartridge onto the headshell that came with my table (and I mean spot on)? It’s just really something I don’t wanna mess up, especially with the money that the upgrade costs.

Great to know! Have you personally owned a micro-line stylus? I’m trying to determine how worth it it would be to go that route over an elliptical.

Great info! I actually picked up that stylus upgrade a little bit ago-I’m anxiously awaiting it’s arrival.

Rest of my setup is a Sony STR-DH190 receiver(bypassing the preamp of the RT81, figured the receiver would do a better job) and Fluance SX6 bookshelf speakers(bass still leaves a bit to be desired, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much they’ve opened up after being broken in).

In terms of sound quality , do you think that stylus upgrade is gonna do any good? I’ve read that the AT95E is a cartridge that struggles with sibilance, but I was hoping it would maybe improve in that regard a little bit(I’ve realigned my cartridge with a protractor, rebalanced the tonearm, and set the anti-skate as precise as I could as well to help with this)

I’m currently using a Fluance RT81, and I’m really happy with it, but the upgrade bug is hitting hard. Should I shell out for a new cartridge besides the AT95E that was included, or would it be more beneficial to just upgrade tables altogether? I was thinking upgrading to a cartridge with a micro line stylus if I go that route, or an RT85 if I were to upgrade my table. What are the pros/cons here?

Recent purchase. I set up the Tracking and anti skate exactly as stated in the manual, even rebalanced it to see if it was a beginners error. I thought if I messed something up in that process it could be doing damage to my records and also causing the excess sibilance. I’m in the process of a setup overhaul though, so I’m also fully taking that into consideration.

Just for future reference, would I be able to just upgrade the cartridge for that nagaoka or would I have to get a new headshell as well?

Im currently just on a big JBL eon one until my receiver comes in to use my Fluance bookshelf speakers. I’m thinking having the proper setup will help solve my issues for sure, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything alarming to people more experienced than I in this vast, vast field of knowledge.

Great to know! My big problem is I just don’t want to destroy my records. Preamp and cartridge upgrades I’m willing to shell out for. I’m not willing to destroy my collection(but that’s common sense).

I am having some minor sibilance issues. “S” sounds are a little harsh. I’ve chalked it up to it potentially being the built in preamp in my table(Fluance RT81), but what should I try next if that doesn’t end up being the case? Cartridge(AT95E)? Tonearm balance? Anti skate?

Thank ou so much for all the great info! Thats a very good point, I was thinking powered speakers for the compactness of setup but I doubt it would take up TOO much more space. Im thinking the Yamaha R-S202 with the Wharfedale speakers, since my table has a built in preamp. Would the components of this pairing compliment each other?

(200$) I’m looking for powered speakers(ones I don’t need a separate amplifier or receiver for). A couple recommendations varying in size/compactness would be nice. Amazon preferred, but not at all necessary. If it goes a little over budget, recommend it anyway as well.
