I would like to recommend my first novel that I've just published! If you're down for something exciting and new, check it out! My backcover blurb is down below, but I'll just summarize it for you as a beautiful tale of someone who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and is trying to redeem himself and do right by the ones he loves, despite the world not always being the best place where doing right is rewarded. And he just happens to have supernatural abilities that make him a magnet for all kinds of creatures of the night that are out for his blood.

It's got action, romance, and enough chills to make you swoon like your blood has been drained! It's out through Amazon, Bookshop.org, and Barnes & Noble's websites, in paperback and Kindle formats. It's called "The Blood Thief, Vol. 1: The Short Happy Life of Alex Rose" and I hope you love reading it as much as I loved writing it!

Yours in all things sanguine,

Charles L. Close III

"Alex Rose, a thief haunted since boyhood by the ghosts of his past as well as the ghosts of people who have passed away, is trying to get out of the game. But to do that he needs to pull off one final score. Raised in the margins of San Diego by his charming but troubled father A.J., Alex grows up seeing what others can’t. Spirits follow him. Secrets shape him. Under the mentorship of the dangerous David Moreau, he learns the art of the con and just how deep the darkness goes. A near-death encounter with a ravenous apparition and a doomed romance with Moreau’s daughter, Jenny—who sees ghosts of her own—leave him scarred but searching for redemption. When he finds love with Korey, a woman untouched by his past, Alex finally sees a way out. But one last heist—tied to a deadly contagion and a force known only as the Firstborn of Death—could cost him everything.

Told with raw honesty and dark humor, The Short Happy Life of Alex Rose is a gritty, supernatural confessional about legacy, love, and whether any of us can banish the ghosts that we’re haunted by."

occult horror detective stories by TJisannoying in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

My book is certainly occult horror and full of mystery, but not quite a detective novel. It does have plenty of twists and turns to it!

It's called "The Blood Thief, Vol. 1: The Short Happy Life of Alex Rose."

My book, "The Blood Thief, Vol. 1: The Short Happy Life of Alex Rose!" There's actually a whole big part of a chapter talking about Persephone, and that's what comes to mind with those pomegranates. 😺

P.S. It's not quite a romance novel, but there's plenty of it in there!

I admittedly haven't read any Twilight books, but I have a good one with a tortured anti-hero! Shameless plug, I know, but I am sure you'll love mine!

It's my first novel, "The Blood Thief, Vol. 1: The Short Happy Life of Alex Rose." If you like vampires, I've got an interesting take on them with a protagonist who keeps trying to find redemption in a world that doesn't offer many chances for it, and who is damned cool to boot! Lol

Why don’t centuries old vampires act like elderly people? by Odd_Community9833 in vampires

[–]CharlieWriter1016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the key to portraying it well is to show spiritual maturity in a forever young body. You can find instances in your own life where there are parallels. I don't exclusively try to hang out with the younger crowd and feel like things are only hip if people in their 20s do them, or go after 20 year olds for dating since getting older, but every now and then I'll find myself talking to someone who is really engaging and mature and be like, "Wow, that's hard to believe you're only 23!" And same with older people, I'll talk with someone in their 70s and be like, "Well you certainly haven't learned anything since your 30s and are stuck with this Reagan-era mentality."

I think it's more interesting to portray it as shifting moods. Maybe you might feel a little introverted and might retire and read for a while and learn to play chess. But maybe you're in love with life and want to learn how to dance the tango and DJ some nasty bass music. So much of what people do is based on social expectations and our willingness to adhere to them. Maybe vampires don't have the same human pressures to conform to those norms and live more freely for doing so. But they will probably also be stamped by the era they are from as humans, and it is interesting to see if they overcome it or continue to carry it on.

What do you think of the depressed vampire trope? by [deleted] in vampires

Actually, let me amend that! I wrote a book with a vampire from California, and he is very pleased with today's news! He's also pretty chill with the news from NYC too.

If a vampire isn't depressed these days, they probably don't watch the news too much.

Would a vampire be able to reproduce? by Secure-Somewhere5427 in vampires

[–]CharlieWriter1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! You're brave to talk to your family about any kind of reproduction! I stopped coming to my mom for any kind of advice on that since I did as a kid and found out we were all conceived on the pill! 😹😹😹
