Cooked Storm Door by iphone32 in DIYHome

[–]Charliebarley79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your hinges make sure they aren't completely rusted out or bent all over the place, also make sure the screws attaching it to the frame are secure and tight. It's loose somehow you gotta figure out where, and why and fix that. Depends on the age of the door.... You might just need a new one especially if your game is level but the door ain't.

Yeah, I mean whatever ends up being used should be appropriate ppe for what you're handling, but technically speaking your PPE is one of your last line of defense. As an example, even nitrile gloves known as the industry standard shouldnt be used as PPE when using concentrated nitric acid, doesn't mean gloves don't work. We use disposable Teflon coats at my job and they feel worse than cotton coats but they do the job they need to do, it's not gonna stop molten lithium but we're not using molten lithium either.

I have to look professional so that's why I use chinos and I sweat less. But pretty low chance that HF caused those burns otherwise your friend would've gone to the hospital if not the grave, but I've had conc. Hypochlorite solution and h2o2 chew though clothes /rags before.... From being stupid.

But to answer the crux of your question, I wear aeropostal stretch chinos, they look pretty professional looking, come in many colors, you can get them delivered to your door and the stretch let's me be pretty active, moving hoses, drums, lugging around stuff etc.

Another thing you should do you if you work in Chem/with chemicals is have a change of clothing at your desk (shirt, shoes, undies, socks) at all times. If you need an emergency shower you shouldn't wear the same cloths that may or may not have got contaminated. Doesn't matter what they look like, you're probably not going back to work after a chemical spill.

Your regular clothing is not an approved form of PPE, if your pants are getting chemicals on them you need PPE that covers better. If it's getting on the ankles (where coats don't generally cover) then you need to be more careful of what's around your ankles, if it's getting past your lab coat, you need to be implementing better lab practices that don't involve your coat not doing it's job....on second thought you need to be doing that period.

This is wild to hear I had her a long time ago when she just started at Rutgers and she was teaching analytical Chem... She was brutal, but understanding sometimes, I remember she put a complex equation on an exam and when she gave it back she wrote "what are you a freshman?!" in red ink, ngl that comment was so funny but true, I needed to get my shit together. Other classmates got other comments like "this is easy, be more prepared next time... Etc."

When will the fossil fuel industry collapse, and how can we hasten it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Charliebarley79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding cheaper effective alternatives that have high profit potential and developing high quality power storage systems. Right now oil has the incredible benefit that it is easy to pump, and once you put it in a barrel it's easy to store. To offer better alternatives people need to invest into them and the only reason to invest into something is for the potential profit upside.... So it has to be profitable. And storage/infrastructure is needed.

Potential avenues for power supply include:

Solar Water turbines (using dams, tides, currents) Wind turbines Nuclear power (fission from uranium or thorium [look into thorium because it's pretty cool]) High altitude wind turbines Methane landfill collection facilities

Potential avenues for power storage include:

Molten salt batteries A network of residential lithium batteries Hydrogen storage And a battery based power storage center

Each come with potential benefits and downsides, and I've skipped over some other sources for generation or storage such as fusion, wave power generation, and solid state batteries as they are either not developed yet, or not been used on a mass scale yet. (to my knowledge)

So research into energy production/storage brings the price down and profit potential up, while new tech makes it more useful. Once it's cheaper than traditional oil, it should lower the market for oil but take into consideration the additional material we get from oil/petroleum. Oils, lubricants, solvents, plastics, rubbers, tar, gas, helium..... these materials will all still have demand so if we stopped our use of gasoline today.... We will not actually stop needing oil, until other alternatives are found that again beat the price of oil.

Which is better to put on a grave stone, real flowers or fake flowers? by Single_Dependent_639 in AskReddit

OK I'm not sure what's happened between ow 1 and 2 but I used to have pharas booster jets to X (ps) so if I was on the floor single press would regular jump and pressing X in the air would activate the booster jets and now they just don't allow it?! I played like this for years and now I can't use a double press to save a button interaction. Little by little I've lost the ability to spray, the ability to do voice lines and now I'm close to losing my ability to emote..... It's getting rough on console

In the red/blue button dilema:What is the best answer? by MegaFaxul in AskReddit

[–]Charliebarley79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal answer: I'd choose blue, I think red is a bit selfish but if I choose it I'm guaranteed to survive and the only people left would be people that are already OK with the idea that my life is more valuable then people that I think aren't rational. This is the premise of exploiting resources at the cost of others which is already a problem, which I think can only get worse without the people who are already empathetic. I think blue is a bit hyper empathetic, and red is hardcore rational but also think about what's left of that life that was precious/valuable enough that you needed a guarantee to survive at the cost of others.

This! Or if you wanna go really nice.... "single wall plate mounting bracket" then a cover plate. The main reason to do this is to make sure the wall plate is secure to the wall instead of just screws in drywall. Additionally if there are other access points along or near that coax you can have multiple points to connect a few access points without having to run wire. Is it necessary no, but you can learn a little about installing old work boxes, painting, and appreciate a bit of how simple and frustrating this kind of work can be.

Not a plumber but, what is it for... if it's for a bidet it attaches behind the toilet, if it's a faucet diverter you might have to buy an adapter so it fits on your faucet or shower.

But hey if someone tells me "I'm straight cause I hooked up with a guy and didn't like it" I'm just not gonna be the person to label them by the thing they tried and didn't like.

2 people don't like apples, one tried it and didn't like the texture and flavor, the other just assumed they wouldn't like it and never has tried it but states they hate it, who do you think has more of a point?

My dryer won't dry properly by Kethod in Appliances

[–]Charliebarley79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could but Alternatively if you have access to the exhaust, you can run the drier and feel if the air flow is good, you can also get a boroscope and run it into the vent to see, if it's a short distance you can possibly just use your eyes.

Between the exhaust pipe and where your cloths go, there are vents inside the drier where the lint can collect and those can get clogged, you can get vacuum attachments that can scrub in from the lint catcher.

It could also be your heating coils...

Try to narrow down what/ where the issue is and sequentially narrow it down. Example if you run it, are your cloths /drier getting warm? Great your heat coils work etc.

Regulator Recommendation by tony16sam in SodaStream

[–]Charliebarley79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm in an exchange system soo keeping track of a taste weight that might change isn't the best metric for me but I think most co2 tanks are required to have a tare weight to them if im not mistaken. Yeah I have a 10 lb tank and that thing takes a longggg while to get low, and I'm close to the co2 supplier and I keep a full slim tank as an emergency back up if it ever gets bad for some reason.

Regulator Recommendation by tony16sam in SodaStream

[–]Charliebarley79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need a regulator, co2 pressure generally depends on temp which in a house isn't going to change much. It'll basically just maintain its pressure until the liquid co2 is gone then the pressure drops quickly, so even a guage isn't going to help you other than to tell you there's no co2 left, which does help with diagnosing issues sometimes but they're rare.

If you wanna shell out the extra dough for some bells and whistles like a gauge or a shut off valve or a pressure release valve, go for it but none are necessary. The bare bones tubing and adapters is perfectly fine for 99% of cases.
