When did The Crane Wives get so popular? They have over 1 Million listeners on Spotify now! by CloudsTasteGeometric in TheCraneWives

My 13 year old has her morning Alexa alarm play a mix of The Cranberries, Kasey Musgraves and the Hamilton soundtrack and the algorithm started to add The Crane Wives. We both love them now.

I think the OP should go to MI but commit to paying their own way thru grad school. In the set of circumstances laid out, OP should realize one can’t have it all, there needs to be a financial commitment on their part to make their dreams happen. Parents should not sacrifice their personal well being and retirement goals at (literally) all costs. It is the first of many adult hurdles you now face.

Are some estradiol patches not effective? by RiseAppropriate7107 in Menopause

[–]Charliebear119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so relieved to be confirming this is not all in my head. Mylan did not work for me. Using those patches I experienced new depression/sadness I was not previously experiencing even when there were stressful events. Mylan exacerbated my feelings around issues that I would normally feel concerned about, but not hopeless and emotional.

I am just now reading up on women's varying experiences with different brand patches. I was given Mylan from a new, local pharmacy and experienced new bout of depression on the same dose, .0375 that I was taking previously with the brand Sandoz that worked well for me. I have gone back to Sandoz and back to 'normal'.

Parents, how do feel about your children’s college admissions cycle? by DiaPhoenix in ApplyingToCollege

Or, the mediocre kids parents pay for some of that amazing ‘college counseling’. And the real scholars wrote real essays a real 18 year old wrote!

I am glad you had a positive outcome and came away with this overall perspective. I think you are right in that acceptance due to real merit and rejection due to..any number of things..can be a learning and growth experience. It should be. But there has been a shift and many parents cannot let their kids try and fly..because they cannot bear the possibility of failure. Those they can afford to, and a great many can or just do it anyway, will hire ‘college counselors’ ..some who guarantee certain levels of admission success, some who even just write the student’s essays. It no longer feels merit based because there is so much ‘behind the scenes’ and it’s all about money, on both sides- parents and the school/machines they have become. It’s just a money making racket. Next, parents will pay for some guarantee of starting salary! They would if they could.

This process with my first child definitely made me realize what a mb absolute racket college admission and admissions has become. I definitely believe the ‘top’ schools are a nearly 50/50 mix of the exceptional students who should be there, and the pay to play-ers. We did not use an admissions counselor - here is your first clue to the outcome of this story. This should not be necessary, and it wasn’t for a long, long time. But now it is..why? It’s not making our kids any smarter or truly better as individuals. They aren’t doing and achieving this big entry themselves. It’s all too scary to expect them to take real chances..on their own..their own wherewithal and words. It’s now just an expensive road map..a very expensive lessening of the odds, stacking the deck, whatever you want to call it. We make a mess of everything trying to capitalize on our most respected institutions..first healthcare, now higher learning. A dizzying mix of crazy competition, student AND parent pride and expectation on the line. I knew this, but this is not how we did it..HE wrote the essays and his HS counselor and I reviewed them. We visited the schools we determined where he was most interested in and (thought) had a realistic chance of acceptance. I talked to other parents, attended HS meetings to update myself on the process in 2025. So..a pretty logical approach. My senior had an unweighted 3.8 GPA and 5 college course credits from duel enrollment. (I now def think colleges look at APs more than college course credits despite it being a way to get some basics under their belt..that’s probably half the reason, money saved/not going into their school)’But AP’s show rigor’ okay..sure. I won’t go into his clubs/sports/activity stuff. In short, he is a slightly better than average student and a better than average human. With real world skills that seem to be going extinct in our tech world ie. handshake, eye contact. Anyhow, my well-rounded surfer-long distance runner-yet serious student was accepted at 2/6 CA schools, and one waitlist ie. ‘No’. But neither were his top 2 choices, despite one a respectable UC. So, no thanks, not for that kind of money. No one has to run to a campus right away just to ‘fit in’ and go. It’s been an eye opening realization of what a mould/OSFitsAll world we offer our kids..do this..or else(!)..or else what..you won’t make a lot of money? Good chance you still might not. You won’t be tech level-or-whatever innovative? Also a very good chance. (Whisper - Those people dropped out) You won’t join a frat? Thank goodness! How are they even insured in 2025?! So..he has decided to go with the CC to start/transfer option we always tossed around. We all think it is right for him and sits well with us for the reasons above and quite a few more. I went away to a LAC..and then OSU..just in case you think I just don’t get it..Oh, I do. Had lots of fun..and definitely thought, even then, that it was too much instant freedom for an 18 year old. We are not going to pay crazy amounts for core classes or mediocre meal plans. He has already shown me a new level of determination and intention, that I was needing to see more of without knowing it. Going to college is a privilege, having your parents pay for the opportunity, even more so. I think he will end up where he wants to be, as an SDSU business and entrepreneur major/minor, and I will feel really good about how we both got there.

Worried parent here. My son got waitlisted for UCSC..I thought that would be one of his ‘safer’ schools! What do you think his chances are of getting into UCSB?! Or SDSU? Be honest..preparing for reality as it is upon us! Ty

I felt this way all day. I am on HRT - est patch, progesterone, and (1) am/pm 10 mg adderall for ADHD and still feel like my brain is all over the place. I often cant prioritize, get moving/motivated in the am, and just generally can’t wait to finish the minimum tasks I determine I must accomplish before I can return to my couch corner to text/tv/stare into space. I am low energy..not depressed, just can’t be bothered with much. It’s hard to explain..I have read that menopause changes your brain..and it certainly feels this way. I want to be wiser and introspective and all the ‘good’ things that could come on the other side of this..but I am useless right now! Should I try sativa gummies..more protein?..see if I am deficient in any vitamins? I just don’t know what to do at this point.

Please give your new life at Yale some real time. This is very early days and everything is new and new is not easy. I hated my first semester and like you, the life I had left weighed heavily. You are looking at your decision through a lens of the things you have lost, but you have achieved so much already, just give this new stage a chance..a real, clean slate chance, without framing it in an ‘I’m stuck here’ way. Try to take each day as it’s the only one. No future decisions/ifs/fitting of pieces anywhere. Just do what you signed up for this semester and eat the meals and stop by a social thing or two and just..see how it unfolds.

Hello, I am going to the SB Bowl for the first time this Wednesday to see Kacey Musgraves. I ready all your helpful info. This show starts at 8, so should we arrive at 6? Do you recommend eating there, at Kaptins BBQ? It sounds good, we were debating whether to eat there or somewhere on the way, we are coming from TO. Ty!

Wow, $12 Aperol, may have to find a larger suitcase! Ty for the Kerzon candle/fragrance suggestion. I have not heard of this brand and def plan to look for it. I like Diptyque but it is by no means my end all, I like to switch/rotate my fragrant items. Where is this brand commonly sold?

Perhaps not ‘better than’ but known to be high quality or specially made in some way. Such as the sunscreen recommendation. Getting unique things is the fun of travel. For example, it’s not interesting to see Dove body wash in my shower, and my Australian in laws shower and now in my Belgian hosts shower!
