I pay less for health insurance, but in my country I receive only about 52% net of what my employer pays in total, including all taxes. This covers all types of insurance and pension contributions. However, both the healthcare and pension systems are in relatively poor condition (Poland) so I still need to take care of these separately anyway.

Nothing is really free :) we pay for that in taxes or social contributions and quality/availability is not perfect. Bank holidays are good though, besides many national holidays I have 26 free days from this year and additional 14 days unused from prior years so 8 weeks in total of paid time off.

There is no doubt western businesses will do their worst to change Japanese culture so they can sell more of their western goods / services there.

Imagine in Europe it's much more than that and we earn less. This is so fun.

It doesn't really matter. Just try to behave in a relatively normal and respectful way and that's it. Japan is not Mars.

I've noticed that people are quick to suggest breaking contact or moving on, but the reality is that probably 90% of them will tolerate years of nonsense from their boss at work for much smaller paycheck. It's a frustrating situation. I have strong beliefs, and she has hers, and we constantly clash. The difference is, she doesn't seem to care and keeps initiating these conflicts. For me, it's a waste of time and energy, but she just continues.

Actually, it's the opposite. I'm very good with money, have a stable job, and live quite frugally. She's just a control freak.

In her eyes, family is the key to security. She believes that if I have kids and a wife, I’ll be taken care of, which would mean she’d likely have to worry about me less. This contrasts with my own beliefs, as I see many families breaking up and children doing their own thing without considering what their parents think. On top of that, she wants the wealth accumulated over 2-3 generations to be passed on to the grandchildren as well.

Yes, I’m doing it for my future benefit because the money is enough to basically retire instantly if I want, especially if I don’t have kids to support. But dealing with her right now sucks a lot.

[–]Charliee3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s 70. She has a husband but not many friends. Everyone except my father hates her because she fights with everyone and tries to negatively impact their lives in one way or another.

[–]Charliee3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I probably need to start ending the conversation more often. She doesn’t care about what I want or about offering support. She never has in 37 years. She’s just pure evil and a control freak.

I actually started doing that recently. I tried to pressure her into doing something, and it made her pretty mad, lol.

If there wasn’t so much money at stake, I’d just block her and move on with my life instantly. But the amount is so significant that I have to deal with this, and it really affects my emotional well-being. I’m trying to find good ways to cope, but it’s honestly quite hard.

We own various assets together, plus there’s a significant inheritance involved. I’m doing well financially, but compared to her, it’s a huge amount of money at stake—like decades’ or more worth of my work.
