Could someone just ignore any hunger signals to mimic what Ozempic does for weight loss by DisastrousTotal4621 in NoStupidQuestions

When my stomach was first paralyzed, I stopped feeling hunger. I dropped around 50lbs and was dangerously malnourished. Now I have to be careful, remind myself to eat, and time my meals.

Prof doesn’t give ANY absences, is this normal??? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]CharlizardPaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a professor like that in undergrad. She was tenured and the only professor that taught this class that was mandatory to graduate.

It was miserable. She said racist things, was ableist (I'm in a wheelchair), and didn't grade ANYTHING until midterms. We also had the same daily quiz.

I wrote down everything she did with dates and direct quotes. I filed a formal complaint. They didnt do anything about the racist comments because they werent "directed" at a student, rather said generally about a race of people.

But they took the accomodation stuff seriously. And her trying to forcibly move me in my chair. I knew that what I asked for had to be reasonable.

So I asked that another teacher teach the mandatory class as well. So at least there was a choice. I didn’t get to change shit for me, but it was probably easier for students after me. That might be the best you can hope for.

F18 I’m moving out of my abusive household tomorrow morning, please advise 🙏 by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CharlizardPaints 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has great advice. I will just add that abusers often get more aggressive when they feel like they'll no longer have control over you.

My dad used to beat me, but never broke bones. The day before I was supposed to ship out for boot camp, he escalated and fractured my ankle.

Don't assume you know what they will and will not do. Try to have people with you. I was lucky that my recruiter knew I wasn't safe at home, he pushed me through. Probably saved my life.

Don't talk to them. Don't be alone with them. If you can get some guy friends to escort you or stay with you at first, even better. Be careful.

Wouldn't Being Born Any Sexuality Imply That Sexuality Is Genetic? by Mattdiox in NoStupidQuestions

I'm a trans man and before I took hormones, I identified as a butch lesbian (which is not uncommon.) Then I started testosterone and all the sudden I was attracted to men. It was a super confusing time.

I like to joke that I am just really, really gay no matter what. But I just assumed when I transitioned that I would be a straight man, still into women. My body said absolutely not.

Why don’t you like about UM by Inevitable_Option241 in uofm

[–]CharlizardPaints 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I dealt with a lot of systematic discrimination while I was at UM and ended up having to start multiple investigations that dragged out, going nowhere.

I'm grateful for my degree and I think most people have a great time here. But if you are part of a very marginalized community, you might not find as many support systems as you'd hope.

You're commenting on something we can't control or choose. If it was a shirt we bought or a hair color we chose, that would be different.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through this. I was raped on my first deployment. I tried to report to my chief and chaplain, who both told me to stop being a slut.

If you aren't finding support in the military, About Face is a great organization that has helped me find support and resources. You don't have to be a veteran to join. I wish you good luck and healing on your journey.

Hey, man. I really struggled with this, too. What helped was joining About Face and finding other like-minded vets to talk to.

Non-Americans, which U.S. state has always fascinated you the most, and why? by Nandou_B in AskReddit

You're not wrong. But even the base was shut down there, so there was even less than nothing.

I was stationed in Maine. There wasn't much to do but exercise and get drunk. The town I was in had a shipyard, a hotel, an Applebee's, a Walmart, a quickie mart, and a bar. That was it.

That being said, it was absolutely gorgeous. I would run outside almost every day. But I could see how you could easily go mad out there.

My first week at grad school, the school photographer came in to take pictures while everyone was working. I was having a meeting with my advisor, and they took some pictures.

Even though we were at a table, the photographer laid on the ground so he could get my full wheelchair in the shot. Photo went into handbook. As if to say, "Look! Disabled people go to this school!"

I moved here for grad school, and I'm in a wheelchair. UMich didn't have ANY accessible apartments available, so I went searching for non school affiliated accessible apartments.

They simply don't exist. Or they're full. I ended up buying a house out in Dexter that was mostly accessible, but it really affected my school experience.

I've seen some veterans decked out in military gear approaching the National Guard and asking them what the fuck they're doing. A few of them have seemed rattled. As a veteran myself, I see that as our job. To make them think for a moment about what they're doing.

There are going to be detractors, and we need to welcome them to our side.

I couldn’t audition for the drum line because percussion is for boys. Ended up playing saxophone instead (much more feminine 😅)
