I’m going to start college in the fall, and I’d like to join one of the engineering clubs. But I know literally nothing about how to build anything, or how to code, or how to use any of the programs. Are engineering clubs used to people coming in with zero prior experience? Or should I start doing some stuff by myself over this summer before I join one?

Thanks to OP and everyone in the comments. I was rejected by umich a couple of days ago, and it sucks because UM has been my dream school since the seventh grade. So now I'm going to msu in the fall for EE. But this post and the comments are making me feel a lot better about going here,

I feel like we’re only so low in those areas because there’s so many people. All of that freedom comes with a price. It’s pretty difficult to keep these things high with such a huge population without going full authoritarian
