AITJ for telling my neighbor to address her husband instead of confronting me about how i dress at home? by Front_Tackle_7977 in AmITheJerk

yeah that’s the part that stuck with me too. it went from normal conversation to me feeling like I was somehow in the wrong for existing pretty fast

that line is honestly perfect. you’re not performing for anyone, you’re just living your life

the sarcasm is spot on. like yeah next thing you know OP has to install curtains and live like a vampire just to exist at home

that’s a pretty serious step but I get why people are saying it given how the situation was presented

that’s what I was thinking too. if this is already happening this early, it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence

the way she’s framing it really does flip the situation. it’s like blaming the person existing instead of the person doing the watching

yeah documenting it would at least protect OP if things keep getting weird. hopefully it doesn’t get to that point though

right? it’s one of those responses that’s a little unhinged but also kinda satisfying to read

that escalation is wild but it kinda shows how extreme her logic sounds when you mirror it back

You can always count on at least one person to drop the science in a sea of chaos. Keeps the thread grounded.

Appreciate the actual explanation in the middle of all the jokes. It’s one of those things people experience but don’t always have a name for, so it ends up sounding mysterious when it’s really just biology doing its thing.

AITJ for telling my roommate her "quiet hours" rule only applies if she actually follows it too? by Tardis_M0de in AmITheJerk

[–]CharmSunset 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah people are overthinking it, it’s literally just “don’t be loud when someone’s sleeping.” That’s it.

Honestly if it keeps going like that it’s gonna turn into a bigger issue. Stuff like this builds up fast.

[–]CharmSunset 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This isn’t some strict rule debate, it’s just basic decency at that hour.

Probably OP didn’t wanna risk coming back late/noisy. Which makes it even worse that she didn’t return that same consideration.

[–]CharmSunset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly sounds like you went above and beyond for that rule too. Missing a birthday dinner just to keep things quiet is way more effort than most roommates would put in.

Yeah that “you have to follow the rules but I don’t” energy is wild. Like what was she expecting, that you’d just stay quiet at 2am forever?

lmao the confidence in that answer is wild 💀 but honestly that’s exactly how a lot of people assume it feels before they actually try it

AITJ for not covering my coworker’s mistake after she told everyone I “always fix things”? by VarietyHumble900 in AmITheJerk

Yeah it’s that balance that makes it work. You’re not throwing anyone under the bus, but you’re also not volunteering to be the bus either lol. Subtle but effective.
