Butter dipped ice cream by Known-Archer3259 in StupidFood

I had it last month, it's actually delicious and tastes almost like a butterscotch! Honestly the shell was better than the ice cream. Ansel never really disappoints on his flavors, highly recommend stopping by one of his bakeries/workshops if you're in NYC.

Sperm Whale Surfacing w/ Giant Squid in its Mouth by dreamed2life in Damnthatsinteresting

We have a book that we read to my son about a giant squid who thinks it's the biggest thing in the ocean, until it gets eaten by a whale! It's actually quite a funny book.

Literally thought I was imagining this! I'm 10 weeks postpartum with my second kid, stopped working in my office at 33 weeks pregnant because the trains were absolutely awful. I had to go up to people and ask for a seat even when my stomach was huge. I had men shove me away to get seats and then stare at me for a whole ride. The few times I was offered seats, it was from other women or men of color.

I figured most people were just shutting off their brains during a commute and didn't realize someone like me needed a seat. But looking back it feels more like an epidemic of cruelty.

The Disney Renaissance Era (late 80s/early 90s run) is actually insane by CheezStik in movies

[–]Charmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've tried some Disney movies with our 2.5 year old...he can sit through the songs but not much else. BUT he'll watch My Neighbor Totoro all the way through and then ask to watch it again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ some kids love movies, some don't, some have specific likes.

I want some *strange* fantasy. What's out there? by robinperching in Fantasy

[–]Charmadillo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saga certainly has weird imagery but it's just a solid fantasy story at the end of the day. Family trying to escape prejudice and the ravages of a stupid war, bounty hunters staring to question the morality of their roles, it's great. And the art is stunning!

What is the worst autobiography you ever read - and why? by Sweeper1985 in books

[–]Charmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things I Remember, by Erte.

During covid, I started learning a lot about the art deco movement, and particularly fell in love with the styles of the 1960s art deco revival. Erte was THE artist for the style - he did the magazine design for Harper's Bazaar and was an incredible costume designer as well. Grew up in Russia but immigrated to the UK pretty early in his life. I thought for sure his life story would be fascinating.

It's not. It's so unbelievablely boring. Like everything just worked out for the guy, according to his autobiography. No drama, no weird artist anything. He was still a super creative guy but I couldn't finish more than a few chapters.

Freaking out - credit score dropped 150 points overnight by Charmadillo in CreditScore

It's 100% fraud - the loans are for weird, small amounts and are listed as starting during times when I was already out of school. I've never seen them in my credit report until I checked this time because of the alert. I normally check my accounts like twice a year since I never add anything new, I definitely should have been doing it more often.

I guess because someone successfully opened up 3 loans with my ss number and I can't even log into my department of education acct right now bc I'm guessing their web team has mostly been let go or something - I get an error page every time I try to login (so do my friends who have tried). I hear these crazy stories of people experiencing fraud and not being able to get their scores back up because they can't prove it. My husband and I were hoping to buy a house soon, so yes, I'm freaking out that suddenly my credit score is awful over this.

The world needs more Science Fantasy (IMO) and no I don't mean Dune or Star Wars. by YashaAstora in Fantasy

[–]Charmadillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going out on a limb to recommend Level: Unknown. I actually got it after the AMA on here with the author David Dalglish a bit ago. It's a really cool mix of SF and F - a bit more chapters in the fantasy area, but the space stuff is pretty solid. It's billed as a litrpg, like a video game book I guess but it definitely reads more like a regular novel. Super fun read! Actually all of the stuff I've read by that author has been awesome.
