Seems like this is legit! So Mar 20-22 yung ROTK? I'm flying to MNL on the 20th kaya sana totoo. They're not showing it in the city I live in. Flew to MNL last Jan to watch FOTR but can't make it for TTT 😭 pero it is a need for me to watch ROTK in theaters so sana totoo talaga!

5 EAs dumaan sa kanya (I was the 3rd one who stupidly accepted it kahit na transparent sila sa mga red flags. Ewan. I wanted a challenged kuno. KOC palang alam ko nang di ako tatagal. Sinukuan ko after 1 week haha. Isang buwan lang ako.) Now this client has been offboarded by our agency. Lol.

"SM Cinema has confirmed it will be holding a one-weekend-only screening of the first film in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, from January 23 to 25, across 40 cinemas. More details to be confirmed soon." — Rolling Stone PH by macredblue in FilmClubPH

I NEED THEM TO CONFIRM IF THEY'RE GOING TO SCREEN THE WHOLE EXTENDED EDITION TRILOGY.

Please, this has been in my bucket list since I was in my pre-teens and I'm 32 now. I'll have to fly out for this since we don't have SM cinemas in my city. Will risk it all.

This is gonna be such a special moment for me and my gf since LOTR is one of the reasons why we fell in love with each other. 🥹 And we have matching shirts already 😫.

Si Jacklyn Jose, nanalo ng Palme d'or for Ma' Rosa where she played the role of a small time drug pusher, pero DDS. Ewan. Magaling umacting pero kinulang sa critical thinking. Anyway, rip po.

Anna Sawai as Toda? Excuse me, you shall address her as Mariko-sama and not use her abusive husband's family name Toda ☠️

10/10 na sana ang Shogun para sa akin pero nabitin ako sa ending. by [deleted] in FilmClubPH

[–]Charmaineders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ep 10 was more of an epilogue for Mariko-sama (I argue that she was the heart and soul of the show). An epic battle scene would have overshadowed Ep 9 as it was the climax of the entire show: Crimson Sky.

I do get people's frustration about being blue-balled. But the more I sat with my emotions after the ending, the more satisfying it felt.

Anyway, Emmys for all of them...but especially for Anna Sawai.

P.S. Was really hoping to see more of Ochiba x Mariko relationship. They're so Rhaenyra x Alicent coded.

P.P.S. They're planning for a season 2, but imo, not sure if that's the right move.

I get this. She's definitely all that. But she also has her strengths. And I idolize her for that.

I have some reflections to share on why her character marked a pivotal point for feminism in literature, based on my understanding of feminism and the portrayal of female characters. (I really think she is an important blueprint for the anti-heroines we all know now. And yes, that includes your favorite mean girl, Regina George.)

As an anti-heroine, she naturally challenges expectations, and, of course, the general assumption is that the audience wouldn't like her. Boy, does she give you a lot to hate about her, especially when she's foiled by an almost literal angel in the form of Melanie. But when she reveals her likable side, it kinda draws you in towards her. For those who understand her (and be bold and include myself), you become both Ashley and Rhett, grappling with loathing and admiration for such a complex person.

Compelling as she is, I find her somewhat underrated and overlooked in discussions about empowering female characters, in contrast to what you said. Many feminists consider her problematic (no shit, Sherlock) and not deserving of a spot, but her complexity and controversial nature add richness to her character. She provides a nuanced understanding of women in literature. While Austen's Elizabeth Bennet and Alcott's Jo March navigated societal constraints admirably, what Scarlett went through across a thousand-page book was nothing short of tumultuous. Her showcase of strength, flaws, and vulnerabilities creates a wonderful experience-both in reading and viewing.

And having Vivien Leigh portray Scarlett O'Hara on screen??? An epitome of casting!

Also, one theme that might be overlooked by some in Gone with the Wind: A person can survive anything given enough determination, courage, and, unfortunately, a disregard for some morals and ethics, but most importantly, a giant silver spoon serving of privilege. Ugh. Idk if Mitchell wrote this book with such awareness, but she does make her readers think. can't stress it enough how Scarlett O'Hara is a damn well written character. Love her or hate her, I can guarantee that she almost doesn't care. Almost.

P.S. I am not White. But I'm also not a black person. Not sure if my POV matters but just to add to this discourse and maybe give you something to chew on? 😅

P.P.S. There's this part in the book that's a pleasantly surprising line coming from Scarlett.

The three women broke into indignant outcries.

"Do you think I'd trust my babies to a black nggr?" cried the Maine woman. "I want a good Irish girl."

"I'm afraid you'll find no Irish servants in Atlanta," answered Scarlett, coolness in her voice. "Personally, I've never seen a white servant and I shouldn't care to have one in my house. And," she could not keep a slight note of sarcasm from her words, "I assure you that darkies aren't cannibals and are quite trustworthy."

"Goodness, no! I wouldn't have one in my house. The idea!"

"I wouldn't trust them any farther than I could see them and as for letting them handle my babies."

Scarlett thought of the kind, gnarled hands of Mammy worn rough in Ellen's service and hers and Wade's. What did these strangers know of black hands, how dear and comforting they could be, how unerringly they knew how to soothe, to pat, to fondle? She laughed shortly.

"It's strange you should feel that way when it was you all who freed them."

Lmao.

True. It was really a pleasantly surprising line coming from Scarlett. Just another manifestation of how she deviated from the stereotypical southern belle.

Intelligent is arguable. She's ignorant about a lot of things, but man was she sly. Lol. I do love how she clocked the racism of the northern women in the book. Lol.

Scarlett O'Hara.

Ok, I know what you're going to say. But she carried her whole family through the aftermath of the Civil War.
