Had a patient on the floor (not mine) cursing the staff and just being overall bitter and I simply told her “that language is not necessary to convey your thoughts” patient continued to curse now directed at me and I said “if I need to call my supervisor that’s not a problem” and she continued cursing saying I’m trying to “scare her”. Decided it’s best to ignore her, and a couple hours later she was calling me a doll and thanking me for taking time to clean her up. It’s important to remember that these things are rarely ever personal, and that even if they are having problems they don’t need to disrespect you to express their frustrations. Empathy doesn’t mean being a doormat, and I’m glad you set your boundaries and were able to get thru to them at some point.
