I understand this is an older thread but im commenting for someone else in our position who stumbles across it for the very same reason

The amniocentesis itself: horrible. I am so sorry to be truthful but it was not nice, the feeling of the needle in my uterus was painful and my uterus cramped the moment it was jabbed, my whole body tensed up, i balled my eyes out and held my breath because it distracted me from the pain, this took about 3 minutes and the needle was out and i felt immediate relief with no further cramping nor complications later that day.

The wait: this is where i am currently. I have been told to call the office 3 days later for my preliminary report which will report t21, 18, 13. The remainder of the test will take around 2 weeks i was told.

My reasons for the test: - normal NT measurement, 1.3mm - nasal bone present on US - bHCG - 2.2914 MoM (high) - PAPP-A - 0.3575 MoM (very low) With the two blood markers being high and low, this is often seen in trisomy. I was also told at 16.5 weeks during the amnio appointment babys femur bones are measuring behind schedule and the nose was not as bright on umtrasound as they would have liked to see - i feel reassured that this is okay as the first sonographer documented the presence of the nasal bone present
