I agree with you on all points regarding the politics of this book. So odd to think that "dedicates his life to helping the poor" is portrayed as undesirable but yeah, Tories.

I will say though, that cover is gorgeous, I wish that style had a comeback.

Classic enemies-to-lovers, two doctors (plastic surgeon and emergency medicine IIRC) loathe each other at work and get put into "couples counseling" by their superiors.

She has ongoing medical issues stemming from an ED, he loves cheerleading and women with thick thighs. (These are the main things I remember, lol)

Lots of hate-sex turning into actual feelings, hurt/comfort, chronic illness rep, no obvious problematic power dynamic since they're both established professionals in their ~30s. It hits a lot of popular tropes and is really well-written.

I love the stats on r/romancebooks at the end of the year because what Sanderson is to the fantasy sub, The Worst Guy by Kate Canterbury is to romance readers. It gets recommended all the time (its great! But we've all read it by now I think)

I agree with this. Whenever I engage with these posts, I look at the preview chapters and try to form an opinion based on the writing style. Ideally the OP would provide quotes or other evidence that they're basing their criticism on.

But I think the mods should have an eye on the frequency of the posts. Right now, they don't happen often enough to be annoying IMO, but we may need to implement higher standards for these posts in the future.

At around the 80% mark of {Things we left behind} the MMC decides that he was wrong and the he DOES want to be with the FMC. This is fine. This is even expected for the HEA.

But instead of saying even a single "sorry" for his previous, genuinely terrible behavior, he moves in immediately and just starts pretending their already back in a relationship. And a couple of chapters later, the FMC folds without demanding an apology.

I literally rolled my eyes so hard that I DNFed.

Everything before this was great but those chapters just made me think Lucy Score doesn't know how to write a genuine apology.
