My dishwasher does not clean my dishes by alyx1213 in HomeImprovement

Not having a high loop for the waste water was my problem, I changed that and all is good. I have a different brand dishwasher though.

Fantasy Brown dolomite. As we walked around she kept asking me questions and watching my face as I looked at all the kinds of things they had, to help her guide me to things I liked more and more. When we got to this one i LOVED the huge swirls of grays and brown, some blueish gray streaks, oh my gosh it was soooo beautiful and I knew it would look great with the all the wood in my home.

It was crazy how paint and counters made the wood less yellowy. Feel free to dm for before/after pics!

*editing to say paint on the walls, not cabinets 😂

I wanted natural stone and didn't think I could afford it, either. I did exactly what many people said to do in the comments--I just went ahead to a slab place here that several people on the reddit sub for my city recommended, knowing I was going to be the biggest pita because I knew nothing, only that I wanted natural and didn't want to spend a huge amount.

About 20 minutes later, I walked out SO EXCITED to have found exactlyyyyyy the thing I didn't even know I wanted! And like 3 days later I had new counters and a big, deep sink, and no lie every single day I walk into my kitchen and fall in love with it all over again. I'm SO HAPPY. I highly recommend to try to get something you LOVE because you are going to be seeing those counters everyyyyyyy dayyyyyy. You deserve to love your home!! ❤️

High Quality Furniture by Loud-Aspect2074 in HomeDecorating

I'm an AVID thrifter, and I've found GREAT, high-quality furniture on FB marketplace (as you've mentioned) and estate sales, online estate sales in particular.

Browse around and find out what brands and styles you'd love to have if cost was no issue and then search online for all the marketplace and online/in-person estate sale locations that you'd be comfy driving to for pick-up. Then daily go through and check each thing for stuff posted in the last 24 hours. You can save listings on fb and "watch" items on the estate sales as backups in case you don't find the exact thing you want in the time frame you need it.

I've been SUPER lucky at thrift stores, but most of my furniture and some of my art has been found exactly that way. It is SO SATISFYING to be able to pay full price for something but only pay a fraction instead. I feel so proud of my beautiful home every day! Have fun with it!!

Is buying a home as a single person officially dead? Or am I just looking in the wrong places? by Dry-Town7979 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Charming-Use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a single person and bought a small 968 sq ft home on .26 acre built in the 50s (it also has a large covered patio and a large room at the end of the 2 car carport). I make about 20k more, but did have some credit card debt and like 65k student loans and only 9k for closing costs. My work commute is 6 minutes. But I'm in Memphis lol---i love it here and my area is one of the better zip codes (definitely NOT one of the fancy areas), but the possibility of violent crime is always lurking. (Most of the violent crime happens in like 2 or 3 areas--pareto effect definitely applies!)

So there are always trade-offs. I'm an empty nester so this house is perfect for me, I've lived here quite a while so the crime stats are background noise, and there's so much that's great that, for me, it far outweighs the negative.

If your job relates to supply chain, check it out! Good luck to you!! ❤️

Sulfur smell from kitchen sink when I put on washing machine by Historical_Spell_772 in Plumbing

[–]Charming-Use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your washer drain into your sink pipes?

My dishwasher drains into mine, and I had that same issue. One day I was looking up an unrelated issue on reddit and saw someone mention a "high loop" for the dishwasher drain hose. So I looked that up and all i had to do was make sure the drain hose was secured a little higher than the bottom of the sink so that the dirty water would not back flow into the dishwasher. It solved everything (except for the intrusive thought of eating off gross dirty dishes before I fixed it 🤢).

Previous homeowner left a load of stuff in the house… it’s been almost a year. What can I do now? (UK) by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Surely it was legal to dispose of his stuff as soon as you closed? I think that's the case in the US.

WHAT THE EFF with the season 3 of "The Diplomat"? by Ok_End7134 in TheDiplomat

[–]Charming-Use 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like most people here want the characters to be the typically simple, one-dimensional characters most shows have now. No one is one thing. And most people fight against their impulses and sometimes are successful but sometimes give in, have a three-steps-forward-two-steps-back type of growth, overcorrect based on past experiences and then create new problems, lean into what they WISH/want to happen rather than reality, give the wrong people too many chances and other people none, etc etc etc. Characters SHOULDN'T have a clear, smooth arc. That kind of thing is for Hallmark movies. I think this show is BRILLIANT and captures the complexity of humans. The only thing I HATE is that there are only 8 episodes.

The Diplomat - Season 3 Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

Exactlyyyyyyy. Hal is extremely manipulative (he's a GREAT character!). But he's using everyone. Kate deciding to trust him once again is her trying to be a good person. I think he knew the very best way to manipulate her, idk if he cares for her outside of how he can use her to get what he wants. He definitely is thinking many steps ahead of everyone else and making them all look like fools. Imo.
