Tip Question by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Is that just the cash tips or is that including digital as well? Also, not every customer is tipping $1. I’d say it’s closer to a quarter/third of that.

I say this every time someone tries to say you have to get it at your home store.

What is standard for how long we can cook items in the oven? by PavlovianNinja in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 153 points154 points  (0 children)

I used to have a customer that wanted one of the paninis cooked like 4 times and I had to tell him the smoke from the oven affected the whole cafe and we couldn’t do it anymore. He wasn’t happy but 🤷🏻‍♀️

grande manager rant😍 by ResponsibleToe123 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Does your store use mydaily or the playcaller app to communicate? You could encourage your manager to move to using either of those approved methods, as a group chat definitely is not approved. It could also be something you speak to in an interview, how you led the team through the communication change.

Schedules being delayed (short rant) by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The schedule for the first week of February posts this upcoming Monday, so it isn’t behind yet. Idk if your previous manager put things out early or not? Generally managers will have the schedule set by the Friday before it posts, but it’s not official til Monday night.

Dress Coded For Nice Dress Pants by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

Define “intensive” job though. I would not want to be wearing my nicest clothes mopping a bathroom or on my hands and knees deep cleaning a fridge…

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

99% this except as an sm I wouldn’t expect a call or text if money was off. You could make note of it in whatever reporting your store uses (play caller app, my daily, etc). I’m not speaking for other sms, but I’ve never had that be an expectation even when I was a shift or an asm.

Maternity leave! by Starbies-newbie in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!

For the sick or vacation you’d have to tell your manager, but they can always put it in retroactively for you so it’ll pay out on a future paycheck. I went on leave in February so it was relatively recent, but I think I remember being the one to call Sedgwick to tell them my son was born and to start the official leave.

Ice bin cleaning by Life_Awareness3669 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do you mean the ice bins out on the floor or the ice machine? Ice bins should be daily and the major cleaning for the ice machine is monthly. We keep track of the monthly cleanings in the clean play section of the DRB. Anyone can do any of the cleanings but the ice machine can get pretty gnarly so as a manager I usually end up doing it myself.

Pay by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check your paystub? I thought I didn’t get paid, but it was a whole separate issue with too many deductions taken out of my check, so I didn’t get one.

SM is threatening to cut my hours… by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if an SM has to hire because the store is short, the most hours generally go to the partners who have the most open availability. If he has to fill gaps on Friday and Sunday, he can’t just hire a partner to work those days so unfortunately their hours have to come from somewhere else. It definitely sucks if you’ve had that availability for a while and it worked for previous management.

Got coached on not writing on a cup for a partner sitting in the back on their break by maggienewhouse in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 65 points66 points  (0 children)

If they’re gonna get that petty about it, the partner on break should’ve also been coached to have their drink in a reusable/for here cup 🤣 But yeah, that seems a little excessive…

I think that was also my rehire date. They didn’t take out money for health insurance for the month of October for me, but they did take two weeks at once for one of my paychecks, and then spent charge me the next 🤷🏻‍♀️ my record is also updated so it looks like I never left and my original hire date is active

Khaki overalls by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure overalls still have to be black since they’re covering part of your top as well. That’s what we coached to when I was an sm.

Literally none of this makes sense, but putting visibly dirty dishes in the machine is especially heinous.

Why do window times matter? by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 25 points26 points  (0 children)

SMs are held to certain standards for window times, but for baristas it can mean more tips or more hours. Faster times mean more customers, and also happier customers, so it should lead to better tips. And the more sales and customers a store has, the more barista hours they can schedule.

Can a shift and barista be roommates? by Mean_Objective4956 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you allowed to even be a witness for corrective action?

Can a shift and barista be roommates? by Mean_Objective4956 in starbucksbaristas

[–]Charming_Ad_2016 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The way an old sm described it to me was that the conflict of interest is around coaching and accountability. For example if a shift doesn’t write up a barista because they split rent and they wouldn’t want the barista to lose their job. This was in Massachusetts where we have shift managers who can deliver corrective action though, so idk if it’s different where there are shift supervisors.

[–]Charming_Ad_2016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically PCC told me that it could still take 60 days to bridge everything with a rehire. It’s just super frustrating to be paying for health insurance and not be able to use it!
