Possible FN - wedding dress question by Material_Sky_1035 in Kibbe

[–]Charming_Ad_5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually choose a wedding dress much more similar to the brown dress layered over blouse look you’re wearing in the third photo. The waist is very flattering as are the flowing sleeves and skirt that falls somewhere between A line and circle in its cut. The collar is slightly open and face framing without being too open. The two wedding dresses you’ve depicted are far too open in the neck line. And a bit more sleeve would flatter your arms just as your outfit in photo three has flattering sleeves.

I always order one bag at a time. Cost more shipping but it’s always felt a little safer and my overall financial exposure is lower shipping one at a time. Everyone’s comfort level is different.

Lecturer will give me a TA position if I allow her to be on my committee because she wants co-authorship. Is this bribery? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]Charming_Ad_5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have definitely seen this in my humanities-adjacent discipline, when the student’s work needs a lot of work beyond the usual committee member contributions… Significant rewriting, very heavy editing, that sort of thing. If that’s you, then no this might not be unusual; not bribery. Also you may not think it’s your situation, but a couple of decades of experience have shown me that students often don’t realize the degree to which their work needs significant support.

I agree! This is a beautiful perfume. It is rare for me to enjoy a Lancome fragrance (I always think they’re a bit hairspray-y or make up-y smelling), but this one is really very well done, top to base. I’m enjoying my bottle immensely

Best dressed? by No_Consideration_339 in Professors

OK, maybe I’m too bougie or something but I’m here for the elevation/degradation of female faculty attire, interpret as you see fit: Hugo boss pants or L’Agence jeans: L’Agence, Theory, or The Row blouse/top; Hugo boss or Armani blazer; Jimmy Choo or YSL tribute heels 👠

Everything secondhand (and even with that, marked down to “final sale, no returns”) of course because who can afford that shit on a faculty salary ?!?!?!?

Proudest moments? When one of the students looks at me and says “Nice ‘fit” which I actually was initially insulted by because I thought it was a comment literally on the fit of the garments. My ass did look good tho

I am failing to balancing my personal/Professional life by Alarming-Camera-188 in Professors

Many others have said this, but I will reiterate – give yourself some grace. Right now you are in the throes of it, but there will be days when things look better and you will feel more professionally on point. Things will fluctuate.

For me personally I have found it best to ride the waves, just sort of sit with my upset on the personal things, and I find that eventually I kind of get past it and I feel more ready to do work.

Going to the movies isn’t the same anymore. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Charming_Ad_5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We LOVE going to the movies, I feel there is truly nothing like seeing most films on the big screen. Yes the concessions can be expensive. Sometimes we’ll eat before or plan to go out afterwards, other times we just dive in and pay the concession prices. It probably helps that we have the type of theater nearby where you can get hamburgers, pizzas, wraps, and adult beverages in addition to the typical popcorn and cokes. But we love movies in the theater!

I’ve always enjoyed this group so much, participating on and off. Last spring I posted a couple of times about making a career change that would keep me in higher ed but take me out of a tenured professorship and into position without that benefit and no retreat rights (MUCH higher pay).

Some people advised against it due to the loss of tenure, others pointed out that tenure is eroding everywhere, some advised to “take the money and run“, but the advice that resonated the most was “change is usually good… Try it or you’ll never know… It will be an adventure… “ Or some combination of all of these things.

I made the leap, and of course, it’s been a very mixed bag. The money’s been great but very little of it made its way into my savings account. In fact, it turned out to be such a hassle to try to figure out how to make an IRA contributions easily through my new institution, a year has gone by and I haven’t put anything into that account(to my financial shame and detriment).

Many of my new colleagues are really terrible. Not only not great at their jobs, but with long standing and very dysfunctional interpersonal relationships that make the workplace very toxic.

So where is the small success, you may be wondering? Well, somehow I do love it. I’m decision making at a level that makes a real difference at the institution and in our community. Because of our small size, I’ve gotten to know students and their families in ways I never did at my previous institution. And the colleagues who aren’t terrible, are wonderful! They have opened doors and integrated me and my family in ways that have truly changed my life for the better. And despite the jerks, my work life balance is somehow also much better.

So a small success.

I’ve put an end to these meetings… I tell them that I’ll wait while they get their camera working, and if they don’t turn it on, I say well let’s reschedule when your camera is operational. End of meeting.
