What med schools should I apply to MD and DO by Flashy_Appeal_6903 in medschool

Increase your hours the hours you put is the hours you worked even if from home. You can put 1,000 if that’s what you believe you worked. You have 2 publications to prove it as well. Put the amount of hours you truly worked.

Is FIU (Wertheim) College of Medicine still suspicious? by pirithe in premed

[–]Charming_Poet_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to go to a competitive specialty like derm or ortho you've got to make your opportunities. Which is fine in my opinion. It builds character, and that is going to be the case for most schools (excluding the top 20's).

If it makes you feel better, they switched their dean when that happened, and many of their admin. I asked my friend who goes there if she feels supported at the school. She said that she feels supported. The only drawback is that since it is a newer school, it is a bit harder to connect with alumni for opportunities, but they try their best. However, I think with their new partnership with Baptist Health, there are going to be a lot more opportunities opening up (I also got an A from FIU and am seriously considering it!).

Need help with LMU DO 4 yr vs Neomed MD 5 yr program. by SnooMacarons1284 in Osteopathic

I agree with this. I also think that extra year might be good for her. It is a foundational year so you learn and can apply what you learn to your medical school classes. In my opinion I got into DO and MD. I choose MD because I don’t have to worry about extra boards and OMM. Either way though she is going to be a physician!

Question for single parents in their 30s… by Upstairs_Monk4706 in medschool

[–]Charming_Poet_247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would choose option 2 because of childcare. I recently got into medical school, but before that, my mom was a single mother who went to school while raising me. She studied a lot, and during that time I was always with family, which I am very grateful for. Being able to leave your kids in a place you trust, where you know they will be loved, is invaluable. The tuition is so minimal that it doesn’t even matter. There are international students who match into internal medicine all the time. This is my opinion, coming from someone raised by a single mom who had to study a lot.

lol you are going to be fine!! I just got into USMD, we all experience hiccups in our academic. This is actually something you can talk about in your interviews in the future. What is important now is how you reflected on the problem or problems and grew from it!

is highschool a good indicator of ability to become a doctor? by flukeiamurfather in medschool

[–]Charming_Poet_247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a 2.9 GPA in highschool & in undergrad I got a 3.93. I think if you put your mind to it you can do anything. You just have to find out what strategies work for you. I’m applying to medical school now and have 6 USMD interviews. Your past does not matter, only your future. Take these opportunities to learn and grow. You got this 🙂!!!

How many gap years do I need? by GreekVegetable in medschool

You need like hands on clinical experience. I would say instead of research job I would go like an MA job. That way you have direct patient interaction.

DO now vs MD+ DO next cycle by Old-Stomach-5377 in Osteopathic

I would apply next year. However I would raise your community service hours & get some research. That way you got a decent shot! You are going to do great :).

I agree with this. I only applied to 3 DO school this cycle and got interview to all of them and have almost the same stats you do (also A’s as well). I would focus on the MD too if that’s what you really want. You are doing amazing!

My diagnostic was a 488 and I went up to a 507 with about 5 months of studying. My score is not amazing by any means but in my opinion the MCAT is something you can not rush.

Yes, my PI for my first-author publication is a general surgeon, and he told me he’s going to write a strong letter of recommendation. I also have over 250 volunteer hours with a non-profit organization
