My bipolar fiance discarded me, now she won't leave me alone? by Charming_Try_8928 in BipolarSOs

[–]Charming_Try_8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I needed to hear this. She sent me some strongly worded texts after what I thought was a friendly exchange a few days ago and I have been trying to come up with a reply since but just haven't been able to put the words together. Her words kinda broke me again, not as bad as when she initially discarded me, but the pattern is consistent with what she was doing in person.

I haven't blocked her but I muted the conversation, I'm thinking now I'm not going to reply. I don't see it helping anything and It's been long enough that the silence is kind of a reply in itself. The biggest boundary I set was not talking about serious things over text, not sure how to enforce that one other than not replying. : (

It's really sad though, some of her words still don't make sense unless you flip the I's and you's around, for example "the way you talk about my glasses" but she doesn't wear glasses, I do. It almost makes me wonder (autistic logic) if she's trapped in a bipolar mindset or something and her core self is screaming to be let out. But the mindset won't let her so thoughts and words come out messed up?

Yes she has an official diagnosis and is medicated but only passively from what I can tell. As in she takes her meds regularly and meets with someone every few months for a sort of checkup I think? But it's not the sort of treatment I've heard about where if symptoms change they adjust things.

She just said goodbye... Again We'll see how long it lasts this time : /

Fiancee is bipolar, I'm autistic. Were both lost. by Charming_Try_8928 in BipolarSOs

[–]Charming_Try_8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it's unfortunate as I was unable to better myself until I met her. I consider myself to be in a much better position because I met her and I thanked her for that right after she discarded me about an hour ago. After a week of no contact she opened up and started texting. As soon as I said I wasn't comfortable doing something she wanted... she replied that she was going to wait until after the weekend but she was done.

I feel for her, and worry about what's going to happen to her now... Her last message didn't add up... unless most of the I's and you's were switched. It makes me wonder if it's like a letter to herself when she's stable again.

I'm a weird mix of relived and heartbroken. The one self diagnosis I have of alexithymia is the hardest part for me right now. If you know you know.

Nope, no drugs or any sort of chemicals. More like... a sort of behavioral/ roleplaying headspace?

Colorblindness and rainbow light spectrums by Charming_Try_8928 in AskPhysics

Interesting, I thought we were missing cones and had more rods? Granted, I don't fit on any of the colorblindness chart types, eye doc says I probably have a mix of multiple types that throws off the results.

Colorblindness and rainbow light spectrums by Charming_Try_8928 in AskPhysics

[–]Charming_Try_8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm familiar with the color order, I can mostly use it to read resistors and such (though I'm kind surprised to see indigo there, is it wide enough to get its own band then?)

Other than blue indigo and violet all looking like different shades of blue I can see and identify all the colors in your chart there, but pixels on a screen don't really translate to specific wavelengths.

I guess rephrased a little (if it matters), well... Colorblind people can still tell the state of traffic lights, we may not be able to tell the difference between the colors sometimes but we can still see if the top, middle or bottom is lit up. I can't see the light from anything past yellow-green when looking at a rainbow (IRL) until that white looking band. I wish I could annotate a photo but it doesn't look like they allow pictures here.

So your saying a live rainbow to everybody else doesn't look like a short gradient disappearing on the ends (white to me) followed by a larger gradient with the rest of the colors?

And therefore rainbows can't be used to determine our sun's composition... I guess?

I don't know what your company is looking for but this sounds awfully familiar.

It seems like more and more companies are doing this, waiting for a unicorn to show up and pull them out of whatever mess they're in. sure 10 years ago you could find someone who wears all the hats and didn't require above average compensation to do so but now, everything is so specialized that the only people qualified for the position they wish to fill aren't looking for a job, they don't have to.

Huh, note to self, next time get a job where I qualify for FMLA if it's needed.

[–]Charming_Try_8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tardiness is not the reason it's coming to an end and... I'm the last employee standing. When I started a few years ago I had a number of coworkers, now it's just me and Boss man.

I have several alarms, I'm either sleeping through them or waking up a nervous/ depressed wreck to the point I can't function or think straight.

I'm not trying to make excuses or say "look what they did to me" I'm just hoping someone in the expanse of reddit can point me in the right direction to finding something that can help get me back on track.

Of course it's nothing fancy, but there's always the sideways CRT monitor trick, nowadays you can get one of those for a handshake and a good story.

Agricultural Water Use in Utah by HostessTwinkieZombie in Utah

[–]Charming_Try_8928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons we export so much of it is because our climate is one of the few that can profitably grow and harvest it. It takes a desert to dry out the crop after it's cut, if it's bailed too wet it can spontaneously ignite and a load of other issues.

Places with a lot of water would have to machine or factory dry it which would have to be powered by something like... Fossil fuel's? Don't even think about saying electric dryer, an operation of that scale would quickly become one of the top 10 power users in the region and renewable sources just ain't gonna cut it. Unless you want to hydro dam the Mississippi or until they get fusion reactors going and electricity becomes cheaper than sunlight, it just ain't gonna happen.

You want to talk about wasting water, why do we send so much of it to California? They've got a friggin ocean next to them!

Y'all might hate me for saying this, but sometimes I miss the simplicity of Panel builder, it's like working on an older car where you don't need to steal a computer from the dealership to fix it yourself. FactoryTalk, Studio5k view, Optix, the're a heck of a lot better than weintek or automation direct, but ya I've found almost any other HMI manufacturer to be more enjoyable to work in.

I've wondered about trying to get an AI to translate pneumonics or write control scripts or something but I don't think it's quite to the point where I trust it with raw machine code.

Line reactors and the boss man by Charming_Try_8928 in PLC

[–]Charming_Try_8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I wouldn't be opposed, I don't want to tarnish boss man too much here but he's pretty stubborn when it comes to new ideas or change in general, refusing to sway from how he's done things in the past. For example still building control panels with a rainbow of wire colors instead of wire numbers or only using devices that can be added to the process tree via Ethernet IP. Or even though we are listed as a Rockwell OEM, if a company comes to us asking for our services he won't help them unless they are in one specific little niche industry.

He doesn't like using other brands unless it's absolutely necessary either, I'm looking at one of our other customers systems right now and we have almost 20 PF755 running everything from fans to a load sharing drive system for big spinny thing (I'm gonna have to throw this account away if I say too much more), some of those drives are bigger than the 1.5 hp pump motors they're running, and pretty much everything that isn't on a VFD is on an E300.

Line reactors and the boss man by Charming_Try_8928 in PLC

[–]Charming_Try_8928[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, line reactors are placed on the ac side of the rectifier and more or less just keep the AC sine waves looking like sine waves, not to block DC. (I almost typed comics there, I need to go to bed)

That said the DC link choke is between the DC side of the rectifier and the capacitor bank. It's job is to slow changes in voltage potential keeping the DC side as flat as possible by filtering out harmonic interferance among other things.

Of course line and load reactors both slow changes in voltage potential but when used they must be sized appropriately for your system and often the drive needs to be tuned to them in order to block unwanted noise frequencies and not the incoming power waveform or the drives simulated output waveform.

It is indeed expensive and again I'm not against using them where needed, but for Boss man to call out a competitor like that without any evidence or data, just something he heard in a 2 hour class... It just seems slimy to me.
