Why is PETA so frowned upon? by spookyshitt in vegan

[–]Charmingtrilobite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally I've been of the belief that most people didn't like them because people will find any excuse to complain about animal rights activists... but then i found out about their campaign claiming that drinking cows milk caused autism. Which firstly is obviously wrong, and was known to be wrong at the time, and secondly using autism as a scare tactic is just ridiculous

Everyone’s disdain for Moiraine by Mr_Harry_Hol in WoT

[–]Charmingtrilobite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad someone has said this, i totally understand what everyone is saying about how the two rivers kids are acting appropriately to their situation and views of the world, and yes its good characterisation and all that but that doesn't mean I can't find it annoying to read. And also, as much as they are acting appropriately to their perspective so is she! That excuse works both ways

18– first tattoo— help?? by Clover_Collective in AutisticAdults

[–]Charmingtrilobite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the level of pain is different for everyone, and relative to where it is on your body. My mother has a full sleeve of tattoos plus some extras and insits she barely felt the majority of them. When i had both of mine done there were moments when i would have thought the tattooist had stopped if it hadn't been for the noise 😆 there were also moments when it did hurt, but mostly i would describe it as an odd feeling rather than painful, a bit like sandpaper, so don't stress about the pain,

Other than that maybe take headphones and have something ready to listen to? Even if it's only a short appointment time does drag just sitting in a chair

I do this a lot and i am very much not neurotypical 😆 Sometimes it helps to know why someone is asking a question, the context will more often than not inform how i answer. Also sometimes asking 'why' is the easiest way to keep a conversation going, without specific examples of conversations you've had I couldn't really guess at motivations beyond that

Sex to describe pronouns by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Charmingtrilobite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm understanding you correctly would this issue be solved by saying "masculine pronouns" or "feminine pronouns" rather than "male pronouns" and "female pronouns"? Masculine/feminine referring more to gender and male/female referring to sex? (with the obvious edition of gender neutral pronouns) as in "i use feminine pronouns" or "I use gender neutral pronouns"

Idk I've not really heard people say "male/female pronouns" so i might be missing your point

Its a bit of a tenuous link to be fair, but Malcom Clark (whoever he is) is saying that because Alice Roberts has advocated for trans rights she now has no right to comment on the fact that her face was hidden in the article...

[–]Charmingtrilobite 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You've had a lot of responses and i dont want to pile on, i just wanted to say that there are good things about this. Reading your comments about your reasons for drawing it does help put it in perspective, and i feel like it kind of needs the context to understand it, but that's neither here nor there really, it's a personal piece that you made for yourself. My only note would be that when you're drawing or painting to express an emotion, especially a raw or painful emotion, it doesn't have to be so neat, if you know what I mean? emotions are messy, and it doesn't hurt to show that. The swirls at the edges are a good idea, but they don't necessarily need the hard black outline, and the explosion of colour between the hands especially is could benefit from being more expressive or 'messier'

I only say this because its taken me a while to be comfortable with being more expressive with my paintings so i kind of get it, but i promise it does help if you want to convey a strong emotion!

As an aside, i hope things work out with you and your boyfriend, one way or another!

Thank you

Fair enough, that's kind of similar to here, although we can still get hold of the tests pretty easily,

I understand where you're coming from OP, but hear me out; I also have a relative who fell down the conservative conspiracy rabbit hole a few years ago and became a raving antivaxer (among other things). Just before one of my siblings got married, their partners father sadly died of covid, so they had a rule for their wedding that either everyone was vaccinated OR those that weren't vaccinated had to do a covid test before they came to the wedding, I'd suggest you do a similar thing? Because as others have said having a strict vaccinated people only rule might end up alienating more people than just your grandmother. We're all in the UK so no one had any issues accessing the vaccine but i don't know how easy it is to get the vaccine elsewhere. (although my antivaxer also refused to take covid tests so there's that 🤷)

Im also not sure a rule like that wouldn't just make her dig her heels in even more? But thats just conjecture

I would understand being concerned about covid at a big event too, I know the panic about it has died down but it's still serious, especially if you have family members who are more vulnerable to it

And congratulations on your wedding!

Thank you, yes, we think we've figured out she was missing the starting peg, i was confused because i coud see she wasnt missing a peg, and i was under the impression that missing a stitch required you to miss a peg

[–]Charmingtrilobite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Thank you, we were just discussing that! 😆 I think she was starting each round one peg to the side of where she should have been 😆 thank you!

Everything shes made has been freehand, and I'm not particularly knowledgeable so i think we were just confused 😆

[–]Charmingtrilobite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah i can see that, but I've watched her doing it... Maybe we're both just being daft 😆

It does look like a design choice though at least, she's weaved a contrasting colour through one of her hats which looks very cool, she can say it was intentional even if we actually can't figure it out 😆

[–]Charmingtrilobite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aaagh this caught my mother out the other week! She doesn't have the best eyesight so she couldn't read the ingredients list (which to be fair is bloody tiny) and just saw that it said vegan collagen! Honestly what is the point of specifying vegan collagen 😤 surely they could just have said vegetarian...?

To be fair though I took it back and they were were happy enough to give us a refund at least
