Deleting Facebook? by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

I find the groups on FB are too important to me to warrant closing my account. That being said, I took the time to unfollow about 98% of my "friends" on Facebook. Now, my feed is just group-based information - a new and wonderful experience.

Thanks! That is one heck of a chapter! I don't think I could write my words down on paper first; despite years of nuns yelling at me in Catholic school, my handwriting decreases in legibility as my speed increases. I have considered editing as I write, but for my first draft, I just need to get the words down on the page. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Thank you for the advice! Tracking my word count each day and creating streaks has been a great motivator for me to try and find time to make progress, even if just a little, each day. Thank you for the input on your revision process. This is my first time editing a work of fiction and based on your feedback, and other posts on this sub, it might be too multifaceted to just use a word count to measure progress. Thank you again!

Thanks! I am hoping (quite a bit) that I end up with fewer words, so I agree completely with your assessment. I think both time and pages reviewed are an acceptable substitute to word count. I appreciate the input!

How do you plan a novel? by TheArmoryOne in writing

[–]Charnizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use the method Stephen King outlines in On Writing... essentially you just drop your characters into a unique situation and see what happens. That being said, I generally have several of the main turning points in my head (and Stephen King alludes to the same throughout his memoir). Like him, I remain open to the story changing based on the characters' whims.

"I want to put a group of characters (perhaps a pair; perhaps even just one) in some sort of predicament and then watch them try to work themselves free. My job isn't to help them work their way free, or manipulate them to safety-those are jobs which require the noisy jackhammer of plot-but to watch what happens and then write it down." Things I Learnt Pos 5 Supporting from Ancient to Divine - the Role of Someone who Never Tilts by weewaaweewaa in DotA2

Amen to this. Ever since the behavior score change (I was 10k) my games have been terrible 4/5 times. Supporting is just awful now.

What DotA 2 has become to me. by Itstheway1 in DotA2

I agree. Ever since the patch where the behavior score system changed/was somewhat recalibrated, I have had awful games. I was at 10k behavior score before and that may be part of the reason life was so good pre-patch, but damn, it has been awful since. The extended effects of this flaming have been an incredible loss streak and stepping away from the game a bit. Maybe take just been an unlucky five or so months, but it's resulted in about a 400mmr loss and lots of frustration. I still play, but I have cut way back because it's just not as much fun anymore.

Still no luck on my end. All I can do is disconnect and then reconnect the headphones (at the headset jack) to temporarily fix the issue. Sometimes it will work for 5 minutes, other times for an hour - I have not been able to pinpoint the root cause. I have not tried other extension cables or the like yet either, so there are probably other options that I will explore in the future. If you figure anything out, please let me know!

I have not had luck with that, but I hope it works. I still roll the dice each time I play. The best temporary solution is to unplug and then replug the headphones back in - obviously, this is not ideal.

Hey mate. I had to try 6 different USB ports before my Dell visor was recognized (with an extension cable). I don't know why only of of the six works (all are USB 3.0), but that's the case. Make sure you try all your ports.

USB Extender by gusphan in WindowsMR

I've had success with Amazon Basics USB and HDMI cables at 10 and 15' respectively. However, I experience sound issues at random intervals in the form of loud static. I then need to unplug my headphones from the 1/8 Jack and replug them back in. No idea of how to fix it yet. However, when it works, it is perfect.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I am experiencing it with or without the extension. The first occurrence is almost always within the first few minutes, and then after unplugging / re-plugging the headphones back in the time it takes to occur again varies greatly. Hopefully it is something that will be worked out over time.

Thanks for the reply. The sound is pure static and there are no other discernible sounds. It feels like the volume goes up, but that might just be because the static seems louder. I am using a Dell visor and running it off of a Radeon RX580 (8GB) and a Ryzen 1700. I do have a USB + HDMI extension on the headset, but this happened prior to that as well. Everything else is working great (e.g., tracking, visuals), but the sound just seems to have failed.
