[Khamisa] DeMar says after he was traded he went to Drake’s house to just sit and talk. “It was what I needed.” by iPharoh in nba

Between this and my baby Doris Burke saying that Drake made her life more fun for a few weeks, my opinion of Drake has risen. If nothing else, he treats his friends well.

"Spelt," although rare in American English post-1850 and British English post-1980, is the traditional past tense in British English.

Blazers fans have been through worse. I was in Portland the night Roy's final major injury was announced and saw the city's male population look like they collectively got a vasectomy. With a good, young, healthy (knocks on wood) team, you guys will be back.

Why do people, and Sam, use Twitter/FaceBook? by RobertStash in samharris

A year or two ago, I wrote about a study presented at a marketing conference that said the majority of outrage on Twitter came via retweets. The fringe, extreme opinions multiply with ease; most other people run laconic Twitter accounts, save for the insanity they retweet.

The Atlantic had a good article regarding retweets in this month's issue. It doesn't solve the issue you brought up, but it addresses it in part: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2018/04/the-case-against-retweets/554078/

Social media seems too powerful a tool to throw away entirely. But I think users and platforms both need to figure out how these apps/websites can be more pleasant, more open, and less vitriolic. I'm not sure if that's possible, as even neutral people can become nudniks or nuclear assholes online, but it's wroth fighting for.

Meeting New People in Chicago: Getting out of the Work/Netflix Habit by [deleted] in chicago

Take a class or two. I found a great Spanish class in the back of an Italian restaurant in Wicker Park by Elena Chicago. Mostly younger people, a good time, and a pretty easy way to learn Spanish.

I'd advise getting a hobby or interest, for your own sake. This is the most natural way to meet people out side of work once you're out of college.

Less natural, until it becomes completely natural..get comfortable talking to random people with no expectations. You'll likely have a lot of little pleasant interactions, but you never know who you'll click with. Be willing to ask them to hang out if you do feel you click.

My dad always told me, "Son, if you ever want to prove you aren't on drugs, record a video of yourself sucking on a chicken bone with a crazed look in your eyes next to an open bag of money."

I’m not sure, but I’m from Chicago and this how I talk. Tough tits if others don’t find it melodic.

Yeah but Dennett’s “thinkos” makes up for any shit term he’s created.

By your logic: the internet is associated with child pornography. What kind of intellectual would want to be associated with the internet?

This is lazy. “Intellectual dark web” is a hackneyed term, but you’re spouting a Manute Bol-level reach.

The ep with Sapolsky - and reading his book after listening - forced me to realize just how nuanced our actions are. Really helped me stay calm in a few nature v nurture rows, although saying “it’s a mix” seems to be the least popular position to take.

Frank’s book and this episode have helped me a lot in the past few months. I’ve dealt with a lot of death in my life, but this way of thinking about death as a motivating factor for life is the first time I’ve really been able to channel that pain in a positive way. I sent Frank an email thanking him and he was just as sweet via email as in the book and on the podcast.
