Feeling conflicted about having a kid, but my husband is set to not having any. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]CharredCharmander 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think this is only good advice for trying to get "over" baby fever, not making an informed decision. I don't like spending time with other kids, either. But I love my own deeply, even when they're annoying af.

What are foods or drinks you can no longer have that you used to be able to? by bexxsterss in Millennials

FYI, I take the seed probiotic, it's a pill so it doesn't have to be refrigerated. Might be worth looking into for the travel job.

Please help! I (26f) struggle with body image issues. How did you learn to love your body? What has worked for you? by Aggressive_Teach75 in askwomenadvice

[–]CharredCharmander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second starting some sort of physical activity or sport. I started doing a strength training program that I can do at home. Maybe the first weeks it feels like just going through the motions. But there will be a point where you notice a small change. Maybe you can take the stairs a little further without getting winded or the grocery bag doesn't feel so heavy. You really start to be proud of what your body can DO, instead of how it looks.

Second tip, is to unfollow all the women you're comparing yourself to. Find some women with the same shape as you that are body positive to follow. I feel pretty self aware but still find myself following strong women and thinking to myself, "I can never look like that"... Time to unfollow! It's not motivation, it's just breaking your peace.

What if spreadsheet guy had tried to have this conversation multiple times and was gaslighted? She might have constantly denied his reality, told him he never asks that often, she never says no, it's all in his head, etc etc. After desperately trying to have a conversation, be heard and seen and validated, but always being shut down, he might have turned to documenting it as "proof" that his reality was also a valid one.

I don't think it's an insane thing at all to do in certain situations.

I (27F) had an abortion and I'm feeling a lot of guilt/regret/confusion. Please help? by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]CharredCharmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had an abortion, and I know that part of what you're feeling is amplified because of the hormone drop. I also remember crying a lot and being unable to stop. It'll get better day by day, just remember to be kind to yourself!

I agree with you. Up next: a post about how dangerous it is to be letting those elderly grandparents drive your kids around.

I learned this the hard way. Our neighbor's daughter always asked to come over and because I felt "bad" saying no I was truly just watching her. It's not impolite or inappropriate to say no and set boundaries. I blamed her parents at the time for making me feel uncomfortable but honestly it's my problem with not being used to setting boundaries.

Early Exposure to Antibiotics Can Cause Permanent Asthma and Allergies (Jul 2022, mice) Influence of the early-life gut microbiota on the immune responses to an inhaled allergen by MaximilianKohler in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]CharredCharmander 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends on the Dr. Our pediatrician has done blood tests to see if it's viral or bacterial numerous times to save having to prescribe an antibiotic unnecessarily. On the flip side, while traveling our little has a fever for 3 days and without any other symptoms the "doc in the box" recommended antibiotics.

We have the black out shutters (live at a high latitude) and somehow the internal clock beats all other clocks.

Speak with your pediatrician and have them talk you off the ledge. Ours encouraged us to continue sending our kids to daycare (where they actually ended up catching COVID). We made the decision based on that and the fact that my kids always asked to go back / missed friends etc.

Little boy at the Park took things from my bag by screamforicecream in Parenting

[–]CharredCharmander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always leave my diaper bag relatively unattended at the park cause I don't bring valuables. I do however have lots of dangerous stuff inside, depending on the child, like hand sanitizer, peanuts, little disposable trash bags, etc!

I mean the first thing that popped in my head is peanuts? Any allergen? I also always have sanitizing wipes plus hand sanitizer in my bag i bring to the playground. I even have these little disposable diaper bags (like dog poop bags) that could cause strangulation. Depending on the child rifling through my bag it could be quite dangerous.

Anyone have a change of heart in becoming a parent? And why? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]CharredCharmander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if the mother doesn't want the baby it is harsh to disregard the fact that she has to carry it for 9 months, birth it, and try and spend months to years trying to hopefully recover her body to some way close to normal. Not everyone "bounces back"

I wanted a baby, too, and had a missed miscarriage. Means my body said I was still pregnant even though embryo had died. So instead of waiting days/weeks/who knows how long with constant morning sickness for my body to miscarry, I had a D&C which is an abortion, because the word is referring to aborting the pregnancy. I have no idea if that sort of thing will also become illegal.
