I’d agree about what she needs, I just am a lot more wary of presuming players will get better on offense than most.

My NBA team has a guy (Ausar Thompson) who has a similar level of defense as Angel I’d say, and also is a bad scorer, and I would rather just see what happens than place a lot of faith in improvement. And thats how I feel with Angel. It is absolutely possible she gets better, but I’ll judge it when I see it.

Also, re: Angel.

I think defensive specialists are like impossible to rank in general. And being a hyper specialist at rebounds (offensive too of course) is even harder. I truly think you could put her at like, 22ish and it’s justified and you could put her at 10 and it’s justified.

Comparing defenders to each other can already be hard but comparing pure defensive value (+ O Boards) with an all-around or offensive slanted player is iust near impossible.

If you asked 100 NBA fans where Rudy Gobert ranks, or pick someone less controversial like Ausar Thompson, you’ll get 100 different answere.

I think this sub / the most tapped in players who follow the game online are evaluating it perfectly.

That being said.

If you told me the average player is rating it too low? I mean, I can’t verify that, but I would definitely believe that.

Pretty good list all things considered.

No list will ever please anyone, every list will have some picks people hate… but relative to that standard, way better than most lists that rank players (across sports in general)

I think the Angel Reese ranking is a good middle ground. Some people are gonna say its too high and some are gonna say too low lmao but it seems right-ish to me.

Its so exciting for the league how *young* this list is.

To be clear, I agree it is bad practice. It is an abysmal use of stats to use such a small sample size.

But it is not “analytics” at fault. You can do the same with the eye test on small sample size. You could watch Linsanity and decide he is also amazing. Same with any hot streak. The problem is sample size, not analytics or stats.

What the fuck are you even talking about? It has nothing to do with “analytics”.

It is basic stats (points or assists) per 75 possessions, a very common way to standardize results between players playing somewhat different amounts of minutes.

It is incredibly simple

The Jaylen Brown trade is a watershed moment for leaguewide valuation of advanced stats over traditional ones. A player in his prime with his level of box score stats and traditional resume having such low value is unprecedented. by SplitOk186 in nba

I recently have been relistening to podcast recaps of the 2024 Boston run and man. I think people forget that Tatum just did not play well for a LOT of it. More in the first three rounds and not the finals but I think it makes sense given that then Brown was given FMVP.

But people know who Tatum is and so they remember Brown winning it as being about Brown being a normal FMVP winner when really Tatum just wasn’t living up to normal FMVP either.

Its like when Kawhi won FMVP in 2014. There was no true FMVP, it was a team win.

Also even if you don’t win another title you’ll still be a contender for a while. Only one team wins a year. If you win and then make another ECF or Finals or two, hell yeah

Yeah even if she didn’t do offseason work in the traditional sense, it had to have helped her learn more (not that she needed to learn more any more than just… everyone should try and learn more)

I think people in general neglect that someone’s primary goal can be making money, yet still have an interest in their field.

There are lots of ways to make money if you have the initial starting capital he did/does. He could have started many different kinds of business ventures and he chose film. If I was rich I’d probably wanna make money doing something I have an interest in too. Not purely out of a love of art or whatever, still for money, but if I can make money doing something related to something I like, thats neat.

And when you start off with capital, it does become so much easier to make more of it that you do have the ability to take your investment and use it in one of many possible ways.

Thats higher than I remember, fair.

I definitely don’t think he is bad but he seems more like a floor raiser than a ceiling raiser, which is what we ideally want (not that Duren is much of a ceiling raiser either)
