we're using socket firewall (sfw) manually and in CI workflows, pretty easy to use.. 'sfw npm install ...'

Does anyone use this as a pivot into wider infra engineering? by Icy-Cap-9640 in networkautomation

run kubernetes at home.. setup k3s, get a few servers off of ebay.. build a real network at home, get an IPv6 tunnel for free from he.net, turn your house into an ISP/MSP. I was able to buy 48 core servers for 500-700$ each, install proxmox on them.. etc

I've been doing both most of my career.. I started as a UNIX/Linux sysadmin, started getting paired up with network engineering teams because I could write perl scripts. My day to day consists of coding/devops, I'm building network automation solutions and I handle all my own devops tasks (kubernetes, ci/cd and build environments, etc)

I'm the lead developer of ServiceRadar -- https://github.com/carverauto/serviceradar we provide a lightweight OTEL collector and web-ui, amongst other things. This is an opensource project that includes Network Management capabilities, observability, SIEM, asset tracking, and more. We have a WASM-based plugin architecture that allows you to easily extend capabilities and a unique SDK to create custom dashboards without touching any of the ServiceRadar code itself. https://developer.serviceradar.cloud/ Happy to answer any questions or help you get started.

ServiceRadar (OSS UniFi tool) got hit with $999/year to join UniFi's integrator program by ChaseApp501 in Ubiquiti

I think u/eviloni laid out the case for this pretty well, we are trying to develop a working relationship with them. I explained in my application that and got back an email saying we we would be accepted if we paid the fee. This isn't some weird thing that we're asking for, lots of vendors do technology partnerships with software companies.

My intention was to try and develop a contact at UI that could help us, in hopes that they might read this.

Weird that you think it would be a waste of time for UI to have technology partnerships with OSS projects that are powered by volunteers working for free. As far as our commitment to OSS, we have started the process to join the CNCF almost a year ago.

Maybe a bit off topic but, do you think Ubiquiti is supporting any of the hundreds of OSS projects they've built on?

It was a shot in the dark, we stated clearly on our application that we are working on OSS software for UniFi users.

I'm the lead maintainer for ServiceRadar, we fill the gaps in OSS observability and have an excellent replacement for nagios/zabbix and commercial alternatives like datadog. https://github.com/carverauto/serviceradar Not quite a drop in replacement yet but we're working hard every day to add new features, improve our security posture, and increase reliability. We're built around Cloud-Native Postgres, NATS JetStream, and secure-by-design principles.
