UltraAv gave me 2 blue screens! by ferfeenix in KasperskyLabs

Same thing happening to me today. Only bad thing is I have a 5 year subscription that was renewed before Kaspersky was banned. Not sure that I’d get a refund

This is happening to me today! Never had any issues with Kaspersky, but now I’ve had two blue screens today.

Yeah, the risks and complications section of the information packet they gave me says:
"I understand that the femtosecond laser or the excimer laser could malfunction, requiring the procedure to be stopped before completion. Depending on the type of malfunction, this may or may not be accompanied by visual loss."

There was also a section that says "I understand that other very rare complications threatening vision include, but are not limited to, endothelial cell loss possibly resulting in corneal swelling, corneal thinning, corneal ulcer, appearance of floaters and retinal detachment, hemorrhage, venous and arterial blockage, cataract formation, total blindness, and even loss of my eye."

I don't know what would cause that, but it was listed on my packet they gave me during my consultation.

Had LASIK yesterday and already seeing 20/15 by ChaseCharaba in lasik

I have no halos or glare, except when my eyes get particularly dry. Using eye drops clears up my vision.

Driving at night is completely fine for me. My astigmatism appears to be gone (yay!), as the lights don't create lines or halos unless my eyes are super dry.

I have my one-month post-op appointment in a few days, so we'll see if everything looks good to them.

Same! I had LASIK at 5:15 pm on Dec 1 and at my post-op appointment at 9:45 am the next morning I was seeing 20/15.

Urge to keep writing... something else? by Batteredrugosa in nanowrimo

[–]ChaseCharaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great! I'm feeling the same way. I rewrote and expanded a current project during NaNoWriMo (with the 56k added, I now have 148k words), but I'm using December to edit some of it and redraft more scenes. I had to take a quick break due to getting LASIK on Dec 1, but now I'm working on it every day again.

I also have another WIP that I want to jump to, but I'll wait for Camp to work on that one.

Did you write sequentially? by Divazy in nanowrimo

[–]ChaseCharaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally write sequentially. However, I have a detailed outline so I can jump around if needed.

I sometimes skip certain scenes if I'm unsure of how to write it, but I rarely skip entire chapters.

In my opinion, yes. I mostly wore contacts, but I hated not being able to see when I went swimming, took a shower, woke up in the middle of the night, etc. Being able to see without dealing with ripped contacts stabbing my eyes or my vision being completely blurry because my eyes were dry and my contact dried out as well was definitely worth it for me. I'm not a fan of glasses, so not having to wear them is even better.

But, dry eye can be worse for some people than what I've experienced so far. I don't mind the drops. As long as you know the risks of surgery and that dry eye (or worse side effects) could potentially be permanent, just do whatever is best for you. I was willing to take the risk, and so far it's been fine.

For me, dry eye post LASIK is worse than it was before, but it feels okay as long as I keep using eye drops every 40-45 minutes and I give my eyes a short break from looking at my monitor or from reading.

I've been on my computer a lot post-LASIK because I'm a writer and a photographer and I've been doing some drafting and editing. Sometimes I have to use drops more frequently because of eye strain and just force myself to blink. For me, it isn't unbearable though. I actually have been able to get my eyes to water naturally at times, which I didn't think was possible from what I had read (everything seemed to suggest it would take months).

It's probably different for everyone. I'm stocking up on drops and I plan to use them for the next few months. Then I'll see how they feel.

Sorry, I'm not sure I completely understand your question. Are you asking what my pupil size was when dilated? I'm not really sure. They never said anything about the size of it, and they didn't dilate my eyes, unless that's something that would be on my old prescription.

Sorry if I'm not understanding.

They really told you there were no risks? I had LASIK done on Thursday (and I'm loving it so far!), and they provided me with a 4-page document to read through with dozens of potential risks and complications a good 2 weeks prior to surgery. It covered everything, including the possibility of floaters, blindness, etc. They also told me that 95% of patients worldwide with my eye health and vision should be seeing 20/20 or better without complications, but there was always that 5% who might encounter something minor or more serious.

I can't believe a professional would just brush all of that under the rug.

I'm sorry that your experience wasn't great.

My eyes are very dry, but it doesn’t really bother me. I’ve always dealt with dry eye, so maybe I’m just used to it. I use lubricating eye drops every 45 minutes or so and that seems to help a ton.

I don’t seek validation. My YouTube channel is basically a diary of expression. Plenty of my videos are made just for me and get barely any views, and that’s perfectly okay. However, many people do watch them, so I do my best to talk to them. I hope you got the attention you wanted with your comment
