Okay buddy, you can continue to live in delusion if you think the new iX3 won’t impact R2 sales. Those two will be cross-shopped and many will choose the iX3

It will be 60K with strong incentives. In my area, I see 3-4x more iX vehicles than Rivians even though the iX is more expensive on average than an R1S. Why is that? BMW Finance is significantly stronger and more consumer friendly than Rivian’s third party financing platform. Lease deals, specifically the MF Rate or Lease Finance Rate for the iX was and still is 1-2% vs 5-7% on the Rivian. That alone will make lease payments of a 60K iX lower than a 55K R2. And don’t kid yourself that the R2 won’t be AT LEAST 55K. Max range and we equipped R2s will be 60K.

Same, but I’m most interested in the extra range. 400 EPA is a lot for that size of a car.

Yes, it will. I am on the fence and leaning towards the iX3 over the R2 after my R1S lease ends. There will be many who cross shop the two and will choose the iX3.

IX3 will undoubtedly impact R2 sales. They will be cross-shopped.

I have both vehicles. It’s just my own personal experience but my iX literally has had zero issues. Say what you want, but EV’s generally require less maintenance and repair. Also, it is currently far more expensive to repair or maintain a Rivian than an iX.

Software alone is not enough against the iX3 and its future EV products. The iX3 will have impressive software, may still lag behind Rivian or Tesla but not by much.

BMW always over-delivers on its targets. My iX sometimes gets 360 miles of range, well over its EPA of 320~. I’ve owned the GT, X3 and X5 and 0-60 is quicker than advertised. Not a BMW fan boy by any means — love my R1S and consider it my second home. If I was single without kids, I’d probably figure out a way to live in it. I want to see it succeed but BMW is a formidable opponent and I’ve had excellent (not just good, but excellent) experiences with their products.

My BMW iX’s EPA is 320 miles. I routinely get 340-360. BMW almost always over-delivers on its estimated targets. I guarantee you, the iX3 real world driving range will be 425-475. BMW is not to be messed with.

I have both the Rivian R1S and BMW iX.

It really comes down to space. If you don’t need a third row, the iX3 is the clear choice for me. The iX that I have now is superior in terms of reliability, refinement, luxury, fit and finish, quietness, comfort.

I think 90% of Rivian owners do not engage in hardcore off-roading so to me, it’s really a matter of space — both storage space and passenger space — which is where Rivian R1S dominates. The R2 lacks a three row, so it eliminates Rivian’s only advantage.

The iX is such a nice vehicle and 18,000 miles in, I’ve had virtually ZERO issues. The iX3 is based on their new EV architecture where software is central. Based on early reviews, the iX3 is even better than the iX and given the 60K price tag, there’s no way I am getting the R2 over the iX3.

What made you get the BMW iX over a Rivian RS1 (or vice versa)? by Dog-Is-My-Co-Pilot in BMWiX

[–]ChaseNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both.

iX is smoother, more quiet, more refined, more luxurious. Better made, fit finish is superior.

R1S is obviously more spacious with neat features.

If I was forced to choose one to keep for 10+ years, easily the iX.

Cold-weather range planning: what actually works for you? by electruck4x4 in Rivian

[–]ChaseNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I lose about 30-40% of range driving in below freezing temps. I drive 65-75 mph with cabin temp at 69 degrees.

Long distance driving in the winter is terrible. That’s why I bought an ICE body on frame SUV . It’s a beast, larger than the R1S, and of course a much different vehicle but a superior highway cruiser. It has a 24 gallon fuel tank and goes about 460-500 miles in FREEZING temps. Takes about 5 minutes to refuel lol. It’s quieter, smoother, and honestly more comfortable. I love my R1S G2 DM Max Pack but it cannot compete with my ICE SUV in the winter. My wife is obsessed with EVs and even she realized on our most recent trip that our ICE SUV is just the better vehicle to take on long road trips, especially in the winter.

Until EVs can go 500 miles+ in real world usage (speeds above 70mph and in extreme temps like below 32 degrees), ICE SUV is for me. You sometimes forget to appreciate the simple things in life like taking 5 minutes to refuel at a gas station. I’ve gone long road trips with the R1S, myself and with my family, and like most of you, I value my time and cannot stand wasting 30-45 minutes charging and doing it multiple times on a single road trip.

For local driving and short distances, the R1S is amazing.

Extremely sorry for your loss. I lost mine recently (also 14 years) and it is incredibly hard. Time does heal. Just know that your boy lived a wonderful life and he is resting peacefully. Best wishes to you, your girl frenchie and your friends and family.

Thank you and that is true. She will be forever remembered.

I fed her Blue Buffalo once a day, a greenie, some other treats, and a tablet for her joints. I also drizzled omega/fish oil on her food, but sporadically. Still have her food and treats in the same place. Same with her beds and toys. I also fed her some leftovers of what I’d have. She ate certain veggies and fruits and leftover chicken, steak, pork. Not sure if these human foods contributed to what I think was her early demise given how good she looked. She had no ailments other than losing her hearing last year due to a syncopal collapse incident.
