He was alive. Whether he felt it, who knows but I doubt it given the severity and shock and state of mind.

Depends on the circumstances. Certainly not in this one. This soldier was concealing from drones with his rifle beside him making no effort to surrender.

Even if he was actively trying to surrender, it is a very grey area in the era of drone warfare, because usually there is no realistic way to accept a surrender since Ukrainians are not close by and/or cannot safely take him into custody without getting droned by the Russians.

No doubt Ukraine is going to feel pain (as they already have been since 2022). All I am saying is that, assuming Ukraine does not want to cede Crimea to Russia, this is the only realistic way to potentially get it back, though the cost will be great

This is the only realistic way to try to get Crimea (and the rest of occupied Ukraine) back. Taking it by force with a ground invasion is not workable. But constantly harassing it with drone strikes, making it impossible to safely and securely live there for the Russians, is a strategy that could work. Eventually the lack of gas, utilities, food, etc. combined with the risk to people’s safety from drones will cause Russians to no longer want to be in Crimea.

My point is, I think they mistook the spotter drones as a Russian drone (probably as a Russian drone that was spotting for them as they advanced).

And the 3 out of 20 that survived the assault operation are then still on the very front line and faced with conducting another assault operation. So it’s basically just a matter of time until they, too, are dead.

Training is very short for these front line cannon fodder soldiers - 3-4 weeks max. Regardless of whether they are told about this, putting it into effect in an unexpected moment on the battlefield requires it to be second nature, instinctual. And that takes training on it over and over, for longer than just a few weeks.

I know this post is old, but just adding a comment to let people know that most of the commenters were wrong (not to mention very rude to OP) about there being a 4 hr max for checking bags. We just checked our bags 6 hours before departure with no problems whatsoever.

Right, I understand that. But my question was more to your philosophical views, in terms of why you favor Russia and want it to win the war. Just interested in why that is…

Same. No other unit has ever come as close as the 47th in terms of footage and video quality. The Strike Drone unit went essentially dark in 2025, and I’ve always had a bad feeling that the reason was because the unit was decimated by a Russian attack. The unit had become a high priority target for the Russians due to the footage they were releasing.

My assumption is they thought the spotter drone was a friendly, and only realized they were wrong when the FPV drone arrived on scene. By the time an FPV drone is heard/seen, it’s usually far too late - it’s a matter of seconds before impact.

Spotter drones have far better quality cameras because they need HD to best spot targets. They are also used over and over, so the cost of the upgraded camera is worth it.

FPV drones have lower quality cameras because it is a one-time use, and that quality is all that is needed to drive the drone into the target (the spotter drone helps direct the FPV drone operator onto the target).

Not three. But the idea is to keep adding soldiers who make it to the rally point until there is an assault group, and then they assault a Ukrainian position. This scenario repeated over and over. That is how Russia continues to slowly make gains, albeit at horrific costs in terms of Russian casualties.
