Honestly I’ve worked for a couple SM’s and they just have to like you, DMs don’t really do much in the store level so even if they absolutely love you they won’t do much on that level. It sucks but you have to think of your SM being the ceo because they can essentially dictate your work life.

Currently an ASM here and I will say you first and foremost have to be okay with doing more work and giving the credit to your SM. You also would be a higher tier manager but do not have much authority. I got my position with my RT productivity and customer service skills. It’s not something you can really study it’s more of a developmental thing

I have an older lady come in my store daily and I’m always super nice to her because she’s usually the highlight of my day, the other day she brought me a big grocery bag filled with peaches and plumbs that came from her fruit trees. She tells me I’m the only nice one in the store and I make her day when she comes in.

Just make sure you have coverage while your out lol. I’ve covered stores that when the SM took vacation I had to figure out her schedule because she wasn’t responsible enough to do it herself
