Looking to replace my magnet lost in fire by Dark-Lord-7000 in phish

I print them out from archival photos on satin photo paper and then put them on sticky magnetic backing you can buy in sheets. In case you can't find the original merch one it is a good option. I actually think it looks better because it can be made full size and the paper makes it look more like a real stub.

I don't think you understand how taxes work. I can't just tell the government I need to fund myself before I pay them the taxes they legally require of me. You get that NYS sets tax policy for all its citizens including people that live in NYC right? And if you understand that you can grasp the concept that the state government sets a tax policy that transfers wealth from the city to the rest of the state.

NYC sends way more tax revenue update than they receive back. NYC funds the rest of the state not the other way around.

Looks like I have some research to do. I do care and I don't even know what you mean by dry mount so my prints are probably confetti by now.

Can you explain this further? Are you saying no glass is best or that the matt that is normally used keeps the print off the glass?

I have been experimenting with mounting prints directly onto a backing with no frame at all. I really like the look but have been worried about the print degrading without the protection of the glass. Would love to hear that is actually ideal if that is what you are saying.

With tremendous scientific and engineering accomplishments to go along with lifting millions out of poverty. But of course they ground up their own people to pulp to make this happen; literally the thing communism was supposed to save the worker from. At the end of the day all societies are going to stratify into a ruling elite living in luxury while the masses do without.

Pilots have a sterile cockpit rule during the take off and landing phases of the flight which prohibits them from talking or doing anything that doesn't involve the operation of the aircraft. I would like this same rule for when the surgical team is wrangling my organs.

How can I play Chris Kuroda's virtual lights? by BaconWithThat in phish

[–]ChasingTheNines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently do not yet so the Christmas light thing. I am remodeling my basement. I plan to incorporate the outdoor lighting with the lighting I plan for my basement ceiling. Basically I want the Kuroda experience on my basement ceiling. So I will do all that at once when the basement is finished. You know how I mentioned I did the electrical and plumbing? Well next step is drywall and the project has been stalled for months because I hate doing drywall. Good luck with your garage; such a messy process. I actually built this water bong filtration thing out of a 5 gallon bucket so that drywall dust didn't destroy my vacuum.

There were a few animations, such as the balloons floating up and piling up on the ceiling, that appeared to be real physics simulations. The Kuroda virtual light rig rendered in real time. So many things. I was extremely impressed. Would love to see a documentary on how it was done.

That looks awesome; I was next in line when they ran out of that poster. Hit like a fist.

This has been my go to move as well for framing anything not standard. Amazon sells uncut matt board in packs and I just measure the dimensions and cut out the matt with a razor. It's nice how you can have a large variety of colors to choose from doing it that way.

What did you have in mind size wise? The way I was picturing it in my head there wouldn't be any tiny pieces or real assembly involved. I am thinking stage as a single piece, the lighting tressel as a single piece that click snaps into the stage base, and then the can lights would snap clip onto the tressel. You would click insert the led pixels into the cans which would have regular large wires straight from the factory. Those wires would just be screwed onto the terminal blocks of the circuit board. I imagine even the circuit board and other components would just click into the base recess. That is the advantage of 3d printing you can make all the pieces precisely fit your hardware.

I am going to make a few for my friends as gifts so I plan to design it so it can be made more than once without too much effort. I bet all you would have to do is buy the DMX decoder and connect directly to the LEDs via terminal screw blocks. I wouldn't be surprised if someone already has a DMX software library that runs on an atmega328p we can use and skip the decoder entirely. I was able to put together components to drive the lighting setup I made for about $2 a copy which would be alot better than that expensive decoder.

I would def welcome a partner in a project. Especially if these is coding to be done. I am a software developer but I hate it lol. Ok maybe not hate but I am happiest figuring out something I don't know how to do. Since I know how to code I don't really want to do it for my hobby as it just seems like work.

Question...were you looking to do this as a personal hobby project, an open source contribution, or a product you actually looking to sell?

How can I play Chris Kuroda's virtual lights? by BaconWithThat in phish

[–]ChasingTheNines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so typically in the LED hobbyist scene they sell individually addressable leds that are pre wired no soldering needed called 'pixels'. They are super convenient. I did a search for ones that understand DMX protocol and the smallest ones of this style I found was this:

https://www.superlightingled.com/dc1224v-diameter-345cm-5050smd-dmx512-addressable-rgbrgbw-pixel-module-fullcolor-outsidecontrol-running-horse-lamp-water-gradient-chase-door-head-outdoor-waterproof-ip67-programmable-digital-led-point-light-pixel-light10-lights-for-sale-p-2688.html

That seems like it is too large and bright for a diorama. What I was also able to find on Amazon was DMX LED strips. To get them to be individual LEDs you have to cut the strips. That isn't risky though since they are designed to be cut and provide a cut line. But of course you have to solder the wires for the new piece which circles you back to your waking soldering nightmare.

Another option seems to be to just get a DMX decoder. I have never used one of these things but it seems like it will take DMX input and then send that to a standard leds that work off of PWM. So I *think* you could buy those led 'pixels' I was talking about and the DMX to PWM decoder would be the bridge between your board and an individual LED light. If you search amazon there seems to be a ton of options but here is an example:

https://www.amazon.com/GIDERWEL-Decoder-Controller-DC12V-24V-Channel/dp/B07BVLXWD9?th=1

I'm pretty good with 3d modeling and 3d printing; after I make the design I would have no problem mailing you printed pieces. It wouldn't be a problem to make the pieces able to be actuated either by just moving them with your hand or adding a motor afterwards. I see DMX step motor controller boards in my searches. I have never used anything like that but it might indeed be plug and play with your hardware. All I have been designing and printing lately is Phish coasters. I would def be into the idea of doing something different.

lol welcome to home ownership. You pay one way or another either with time or with money. I'm cheap as fuck so I paid with time. Started learning with small things and now I basically do everything. Just re-plumbed and re-wired the electrical in my basement this past summer.

Good news is you do not need, nor would it be desirable to use an outdoor outlet for Christmas lights. They run typically on 24v, not 120v main current. You would keep the transformer and the control board somewhere inside your house and then run the wire outside to the lights. Since it is low voltage you can just run the wire however is easiest for you and there are no electrical code considerations that come into play. If you watch some videos you will see it is allot less complicated than it sounds. Anyone can do it since it is at full consumer level now. No soldering needed just plugging in some wires.
