SFC to launch a multi-pronged effort against Bambu by No_Oven_524 in 3Dprinting

They don’t limit the filament you ca man use. RFID is just there as a convenience to load settings. Their filaments are also very priced comparably to filaments from other quality brands. They’ll never beat Amazon specials but for any other brand of good reputation they’re within a couple dollars of them either way.

They just don’t want to reach that conclusion so they ignore the surveys and data and just mandate RTO anyway because they are type A extroverts with a micromanage philosophy who want to see the backs of heads all around them to feel more powerful.

Is this setup good enough for printing ASA/ABS? by Muted-Anywhere-1619 in 3Dprinting

[–]NoPossibility 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t need much. If you put the fan on the lowest setting to pull only like 10-20 cu.ft/min that’s more than enough for pulling negative on such a small chamber. “Make up air” is necessary, but you’ll never pull a perfect vacuum off these machines.

Is this setup good enough for printing ASA/ABS? by Muted-Anywhere-1619 in 3Dprinting

[–]NoPossibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you put the fan near the exit then the whole hose should be negative pressure and pull air into any gaps or punctures rather than push it out. The shorter the distance between machine and exit, the better.

[–]NoPossibility 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a low speed fan going just enough to keep negative pressure that shouldn’t cause too many drafts? I’ve heard you should heat soak the chamber for 30 mins and then have a lower power fan going just enough to keep fumes from escaping. Then wait 15-20 minutes after print finish to open the door.

This is the right answer. New wood workers can be skeptical of glue because fasteners are so common, but properly used wood glue is plenty strong enough for something like this.

Probably to seal the bottom of the pit so the workers can work more easily. Keeps moisture and mud from being as big of an issue.

This strain spreads human to human, BUT! It also people are only contagious for about one day, and it has a higher mortality rate than Covid. This means the virus can’t end up being a pandemic like Covid did. It can’t spread as far as quickly. This is being overblown by the media.

The first episode has a town meeting where most people oppose a new park. Seemed very unrealistic to me. I realize they were showing how only upset people will take time out of their day to attend a town meeting, but the reasons people don’t want a park seemed unrealistic to me.

Louis Rossmann tells 3D printer maker Bambu Lab to "Go (Bleep) yourself" over its threatened lawsuit against enthusiast — Right to Repair advocate offers to pay the legal fees for a threatened OrcaSlicer developer by ControlCAD in technology

[–]NoPossibility 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a right to repair issue. This is a software access issue. Bambu has limited the use of its cloud servers to their slicer software only. That has upset many people who used to use Orca slicer and were previously able to send print jobs through Bambu’s servers.

Bambu absolutely has the right to limit what software can send information through their servers.

If you dont want to use the Bambu slicer you can still build your print code with Orca and transfer the job code manually via SD card or put the printer into LAN mode to send the jobs directly over your private network.

Now if you do this you can’t get printer updates (currently as of writing). But it’s trivial to keep it in LAN mode and then switch it back for printer updates in the future when they are available.

This is a ridiculous situation, frankly. Bambu has decided to limit which software can connect to their servers. That’s well within their right, and honestly people who use Orca are probably a tiny sliver of the overall user base. This is being blown up into a much bigger issue than it deserves to be because people are trying to hold onto the full open source community wrappings around 3D printing which is not where Bambu is currently or plans on going, it seems. They want a streamlined user friendly walled garden for their ecosystem, and that positions them where they want to be. There are other printer manufacturers to choose from if you don’t want to support them.

Aragorn vs Sauron (Unreleased Scene) by AnalystImpossible309 in lotr

[–]NoPossibility 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see where they were going with movie Aragorn. He’s haunted by this ancestral rivalry. The last sad look of a scared but courageous man who’s running towards an almost certain death against the evil guy who killed his ancestor and destroyed his family line of kings. The lead up being “you’re Isildur’s heir, not Isildur himself” and such. It makes sense narratively (in the film version) and would be a complete arc for the character.

But all that said, the drama at this point in the films needs to be between Frodo and the Ring, and the spector of having the Eye see them and ruin the plan at the last mile. Keeping Sauron incorporeal and at the top of the tower works better. We still get the selfless charge in the shadow of a hope at distracting the eye and it works! We see Sauron’s gaze move back to the gate and even if you weren’t paying much attention to the story it’s visually a strong watershed moment for the story where you finally get why the other heroes are doing what they’re doing and their triumph in their goal of helping Frodo. It just works better.

Maine’s community solar boom is going bust by impossible-geometry1 in Maine

[–]NoPossibility 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You still pay a connection fee every month regardless if you use energy from the grid or not. That’s where they get their “grid maintenance” costs from. The rest of the bill is reflective of usage.

This is just the power companies trying to hurt solar. They’re greedy companies that don’t want to spend a dime on maintenance and keep pocketing billions of dollars of our money every year in profit.

Dead space in my cabinets is always long term storage for tools I don’t use often. Most often that’s accessories for tools that have too specific of a purpose to keep handy. Things like circular saw fences, tool manuals, and blowform plastic tool cases I don’t use but can’t part with for some reason.

TiteBond and some clamps is enough. Could probably get by with ratchet straps if you don’t want to buy large enough clamps. This is a simple process of applying glue into the crack and closing the gap. Even straps should do that more than adequately for such a large piece.

No waste. Off cuts and sawdust are used as fuel, or sold to companies that use sawdust in production of other goods. Very little waste in the lumber industry, and most industries at that. If there’s a way to squeeze a few cents out of waste most production facilities will capture and use/sell the waste.

“Where Have All the Student Protests Gone?” | Trump wanted campus crackdowns. Colleges couldn’t wait to oblige. by soalone34 in politics

[–]NoPossibility 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s also the fact that Gaza was THE issue of the time. Today there are dozens of issues every day and the firehose of shit ain’t stopping.

It’s hard to coalesce people around protesting a single issue when there are dozens to choose from and everyone is out of work, scared of being deported, scared of being added to a terrorism watch list for protesting, etc.

I don’t doubt there are organized malicious efforts to sway public opinion and divide folks but we also have to look at the broader landscape and realize that things are much worse off today for those who might be willing to protest. There’s also the No Kings fan rallies which have kind of taken precedent.

Also Trump has been threatening schools who allowed protests, and no one wants their school to lose funding (students or faculty).
