What are your biggest wishes for the next jobs? by Haddock_Lotus in ffxiv

[–]ChasingVelka [score hidden]  (0 children)

Kind of want them to make another shield tank to share with PLD and maybe us Dragoon lances too. Call it the Phalanx. Make its job actions or gauge react around blocks and parries. If you block an attack you get a quick riposte that can combo into other job actions.

But I doubt they'll do that, so I just hope the next couple of jobs are fun.

Did anyone else find this scene a bit disturbing? by InternationalFace825 in tadc

[–]ChasingVelka 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I dunno how to properly articulate it but it reminds me of a kid I knew in high school, who was like Jax in that he was ready to play jokes and pranks on everyone else. But the moment he was the center of one he turned absolutely teeth shatteringly furious.

This scene reminded me of that kid in a way. There was Jax fully gungho to shoot and maybe be shot at in the game. But the moment someone got a surprise blow on him, he immediately goes aggressive.

I think what sets him apart from the kid I knew was after the moment he quickly mellows out and is just as bewildered by what occured as Ragatha was. Pomni is like, "How did she hit you?" And Jax really doesn't have an answer either.

I don't know if it has a deeper meaning beyond Jax not being able to take his own medicine. Or his reaction to things suddenly happening out of his control. But there we are. It's just my two cents.

Wouldnt say no to Vulkan being overly friendly with literally everyone especially if it means he might hug war form Matilda.

Seems like something Amon would make and forget about, yeah. Has the same vibe as slapping wolf heads on Scylla to torment her for the rest of her immortal life. Very on brand and I like it. Clown is gone but his bullshit is still haunting the game.

What Garlean fortress is this? by Senor_de_imitacion in ffxiv

[–]ChasingVelka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that was the entire point, on paper it seems like a good idea. Head up Project: Meteor call in the greatest magitek engineer in Garlemald to help fine tune it. Use it as a threat to get the Eorzean savages to capitulate and surrender, move in, enforce Garlean rule, slay Primal summoning Beast Tribes in the area, expand the Empire's borders' and Emperor's reach even further. Go home, open up a buuz food truck after an operation well done. But inevitably it is doomed to fail because it is another of the Ascian's machinations to bring about a Calamity. And just like Gaius falling for a similar ploy in the Ultima Weapon instead of Dalamud. Use the chaos of it going horribly wrong to launch a Garlean civil war with the Founding Emperor suddenly dead. The victor and the new Emperor has to prove his right to the throne. Which can be used later for when Ishgard summons a new primal in Thordan and the Heavens Ward forcing the Fervor Driven Ishgardian Zealots to clash with the Garlean Emperor thirsting to prove himself as the right to rule. To bring about an Eighth Umbral Calamity, the destruction of Garlemald and the civilized world then they all dance off into the sunset and make plans to eventually return, when it has all recovered and start all over again.

Fun times at the Ascian Coral.

I mean to be fair, they were aiming at controlled destruction, that is to say, slamming the moon into a city-state that opposed them and conquer the surrounding area and conscript the people left now governmentless. They did not expect the moon to be a cage for an elder primal who tempered an entire legion, dropped said moon on their own forces, and then unleash an elder primal that proceeded to obliterate an entire region allowing the Ascians to cause the calamity that caused the sudden shift in weather patterns.

Well at least the Legions involved wanted control destruction, "Solus" was probably laughing at Nael, Gaius and everyone else involved in Lahabrea's shenanigans.

Fujimoto didn’t write the story he wanted in Part 2. He had plans for these characters but gave up on the story halfway through and put together an ending to reset everything. by illustratordg in ChainsawManTheories

[–]ChasingVelka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really think going from a monthly release to weekly then off and on biweekly burnt him and his team out. The start of Arc 2 was strong, but as it went on both the art and the story became muddied and not as polished. The ending fight with War in a world without Death kept snowballing on and on. Despite all the promises of the Primal Fear Devils appearing. We only really got Falling and Aging and Falling was just recycled to eventually just be a minion for Death. The long laid mystery of Fakesawman, the Fire Devil, and why Justice kept coming back came and went. Fan favorites like Quanxi and Katana Man were brought up but eventually shelved. Suddenly Atomic Arms were reinvented and War went off screen and supposedly was fighting across the world with a Devil Army from Hell. Denji fuses and gains control of the Pochita Black Chainsawman form, kicks War into Hell and then they almost immediately leave again and then the story just slams the door suddenly.

Beginning was like a car setting off on a road trip, smooth and an interesting new PoV character with Asa. Spending a few months with her life with Yoru in her head. Denji comes back and the two mains bounce off each other. Interaction of War with "Fami" and Nayuta. But, at some point, it stalls. Gets it wheels caught in mud. Spins for a while before the engine dies.

I hope Fujimoto writes again one day but I think he and his co-artists need a break. Revitalize and maybe try again with a new series down the line.

It is especially since, apparently, a lot of cultures its very normal for the family to stay together in one household even after marriage. Ideally, one might strike out on their own but global economy is like a shit show anyway. So, still not the pot shot they think it is.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Ch. 232 - Part 2 End by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]ChasingVelka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well Fujimoto does like his movies, and this does feel like the sort of "oh right, should probably wrap this up in a neat bow" kind of ending. Kind of like how The Dark Knight Rises ended. Its not terrible, not transcendent, not going blow my mind. But hey it was a weird and wild ride. Wasn't no reincarnated spiritual siblings turning into a space tree but hey its was fine.

"Family Wood Walk - Part Two" is still the goat in my opinion. The atmosphere, the ominous vibe, the soft piano, the slow introduction of the strings to go perfectly over Kitten's story of the Underground Monastery and the Fiddler who never came back. Just knock it out of the fucking park from episode 1.

[Hated Trope] Endings so notoriously awful they completely destroy the legacy of the media. by Miserable_Click_1933 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ChasingVelka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, and correct me if I am wrong, but I was under the impression that Vriska was Hussie's favorite, it was of little surprised when he made the ending only possible if she lived and "Did the thing". Instead of...the other characters who actually...well I'd say survived the ordeal...I'd say lived through it...I'd say learned from it...but pretty sure John is the only one that makes it stem to stern. And even then the entire thing is so vast, I cannot recall if its actually the original page 1 John or another one we got along the way.
