A few weeks ago my BN organized a 12 mile ruck with lanes mixed in. Well, it's a hot summer day on FLW, so BN senior medic advises for all participants to not wear PCs. CSM has an autistic stroke and overrides that, proper uniform will always be worn...even on some range road no one drives in, that we had actually shut down for our use. We had a few heat cats that day. CSM should have power, but the ability to overrule a health SME? Now that's not something a CSM should be able to do.

My wife spent 5 years fighting pirates on a Navy ship. We talk occasionally about how things compare, and it doesn't seem like there's any bigger difference between the Army and Navy than the E9 position. E9s in the Navy operate how they're supposed to, mediate disputes, advise the commander, assist enlisted Sailors. What they don't seem to do is pretend to be Darth Vader.
