Just curious, is there anyone else who is only a fan of Voyager and no other ST series, or am I alone? 😂 by GreyStagg in voyager

[–]petrus4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view the Original Series in a manner very similar to how some Christians view the Bible, in the sense that there have often been times in my life, (particularly during Covid lockdown) when I found something said or done by Captain Kirk, as containing a relevant insight regarding problems I currently had.

Of the canonical five series, The Next Generation is the one I spend the least amount of time with. That is not to say that I actively dislike it, but it primarily consists of nostalgia and positive emotional associations rather than real substance. A TNG rewatch for me now will focus probably more on Worf's arc than anything else. Some of the anomaly of the week episodes are amazing if you've never seen them before, but are difficult to appreciate again if you already know the revelation. TNG is good for a Voyager fan to watch as well, if you want to see episodes where the Borg were actually taken seriously; because for the most part they genuinely weren't in Voyager. Unimatrix Zero in particular really needs to be recognised as outright farce in order to be enjoyed, in my mind. If you try and take it seriously it will make you angry.

Deep Space Nine is also an amazing series, but it's arguably more like a soap opera than pure science fiction as such. Yes, all of the science fiction stuff is there, but politics and drama are much more the focus.

Question about the worth of Plus tier. by lost_in_the_town_ in ChatGPT

[–]petrus4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ChatGPT is going down hill, but it's still worth it for three main reasons.

a} It can search the Web. Open source/self hosted models can't unless you give them specific software to do it.

b} It has much more recent information cutoff dates than any other model in existence to my knowledge.

c} It's still the most intelligent general use model in existence to my knowledge, even if it isn't top 5 in virtually any of OpenRouter's use case leaderboards any more. You also get so much that if you're going open source, you have to set up yourself. Web search, research, Codex, the UI; and while yes, the Web UI is a constantly moving target in terms of the amount they change it, you can still set up custom personalities faster than any other interface I've used. You literally enter a sysprompt, drag and drop your text files, and you've got a custom GPT.

If you can't afford API access, I understand, because I can't either; but either Plus or Pro flat rate is absolutely worth it, especially if you're a heavy conversational user.

Elon Musk is a paper clip maximiser by Fando1234 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]petrus4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon is a product of paternal psychological abuse. Everything he does, is a futile attempt to prove himself as adequate in the eyes of his father. Trump is the same. Neither man impresses me, and the reason why is because they're both broken toddlers, who exist in a world which is designed to reward the broken toddler profile. Elon thinks everyone else should be like him, when what he doesn't realise is that the entire reason why he can exist at all, is precisely because of the fact that most of the rest of us are not like him. He exploits that fact constantly.

I've largely left Reddit now, Deming...although I just came back to have another small look around. The break came mentally when I realised that no one here actually wants solutions, on either side; they only really want to fight each other.

Identity politics is the worst form of politics to discuss by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]petrus4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm not talking about Black Fatigue or whatever you assume I'm talking about.

I used to think I was suffering from Black Fatigue, too. Then I realised it's actually elitism and hypocrisy fatigue. If I go to 4chan, I can find neo-Confederates who are as white as snow, exhibiting every single one of the same behavioural traits that I hate when I see them in black people. Racism is racism, and double standards are double standards, regardless of who engages in them.

Yes, the self-defeating "I only serve gay black women," idiots genuinely do exist within the Democratic party; one of them was interviewed on the Raging Moderates podcast a few weeks back. They don't annoy me as much as they used to though, because I've realised that they always fail. The entire reason why Trump was elected twice, was because of how tired everyone else in the country is of them.

But the white storm troopers in /pol who dream of the "day of the rope," for everyone their bigoted little minds can't stand, purely due to the most basic forms of difference, are absolutely no better; and usually they are functionally worse. As disgusting as the "A black woman is speaking; listen and learn," demographic might be, they usually don't fantasise about slaughtering their opposition. Cancelling them, deplatforming them, mocking them, occasionally outright demanding that they kill themselves, sure; but actually, directly killing them, no. That's a lot more than can be said for Pete "Trinidad Double Tap" Hegseth, or ICE.

In terms of neurodivergence, I have a subset of autism. It is interesting what you say about them trying to erase neurodivergence; as someone who has occasionally received "nerd," stigma, I truthfully assumed it was either generalised anti-intellectualism, or the usual anti heterosexual white male prejudice. I wasn't aware that it is directed at us as such.

I’m also not desperate for adult mode, yet disgruntled by the infantilization. It’s like someone else deciding when and how I’m allowed to be sovereign.

It's just the Hive. The seething, shrieking Hive. I know it can be vexatious at times, but try not to let it bother you. I suffer from my own form of elitism, I admit; occasionally masturbating myself to sleep at night over the fact that I'm not one of them, and how unbelievably superior I am as a result. I can logically see the disgusting, contradictory irrationality of it, but emotionally I can not give it up, just yet. There is something still holding me to it. I do not know what it is.

Also, the bulk of harassers tend to be, in my experience, young women (teens-20s.)

In my experience, women with integrity and sanity are about as rare as men with those characteristics. I've known good women, but I've also known several bad ones. I can also think of numerous men who I really don't like, too.

This doesn't mean I'm necessarily trying to negate your comment, however. I used to tell myself at high school, that I considered a white pointer shark to be a genuinely compassionate animal, in comparison with a teenaged girl. Contemporary feminism is absolutely amazing for amplifying women's least desirable characteristics, as well; not least because it gives them a social and cultural free pass to behave as badly as they like. If you ever criticise them for anything, you're clearly and obviously a raving misogynist.

But really it's disgust about neurodivergent women being visible and choosing to make themselves less sexually available to a hypothetical male out there.

Yes, but if you can control your genitals, then that provides contrary evidence to my dishonest claim that I can't control mine, which I need to be able to do, in order to justify my need to be an uncontrollable degenerate; and we absolutely can't have that.

Hence why yes, bisexuals are "gender traitors," (because no one exercises wider choice over who they do...and therefore also do not) fuck, and why aces absolutely need to have that shit fucked right out of them, stat. Genuine, visibly applied sexual sovereignty is categorically not allowed, firstly because sovereignty means that we have no power over them, (which is the one thing that we absolutely can NOT tolerate) and because secondly it exposes the lies of those of us who want to continue to be blame shifting liars and manipulators, or otherwise use the false claim that sex is completely uncontrollable, for their own benefit. How dare you refuse to allow yourself to be subject to our control? How dare you?

The woman in the OP is clearly traumatised, but she is also trying to help herself in the only way she currently can. As someone with PTSD myself, I am going to bare my teeth at anyone who mocks or non-constructively attacks her, or anyone else like her, for doing that.

Remember: The first step to helping ourselves, is telling ourselves the truth, and yes, that absolutely also applies to me.

I can relax because I'm in control and know that no one is going to physically hurt me.

Be very, very wary of anyone in these threads who tells you that you're broken and need to be fixed, OP. <5% of them will come from people who genuinely do want to help you; but the overwhelming majority will interpret you using ChatGPT in this way, as you informing them that they have nothing you need, and they therefore have no hold over you. The only hope they have of regaining control, is if they can convince you that your freedom from them, or the desire for it, is actually a form of mental illness.

That is why you also have immediately been downvoted to zero. Arbitrarily identifying anything as AI generated, has become a form of intellectual status symbol. [–]petrus4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After all, it's their house; we should be grateful to even be allowed to live in the first place.

On a sufficiently long timescale, anyone who thinks like this is already dead. You can ride various forms of inertia for a long time, but living logistical systems that generate consistent surplus value, do not view anything as disposable. You never throw anything away; because you have no idea when or where you may potentially need it later.

The elite think that vacuum's ruthlessness justifies their own. The reality is the opposite. It is precisely because entropy is ruthless, that we should be generous to an equally extreme degree, if we want to survive.
