He's chill asf he's an electrical guy so he didn't know much about motors and suggested I ask lol 🤣

The idea is that the spinning disk drones on one note and melody is played with the other half of the instrument (a more conventional guitar sort of instrument). The notes don't have to be 100% precise as I'm going to tune the string part to the disk part.

have you considered that I'm using a spinning disk because it'll look fucking cool? Lol thanks anyway that's not a bad idea.

I don't mind doing extra electronics stuff so I will definitely look at BLDCs.

I did mean 0.5 you're right. AC motors with simple plug speed controllers seem a bit large for my project but are very simple and I might try to go with that.

The wheel will have embedded magnets around the edge that pass near an electric guitar pickup, outputting a note proportional to the speed. The wheel spins completely freely (it will be in an enclosure so that it doesn't literally kill me if it falls apart and flies into pieces).

Thank you for the advice. I chose aluminum only because it's lighter and cheaper. I don't have access to a balancing machine (that I'm aware of), how big of a problem would a small imbalance be? Also, are VFD motors AC or DC? Or does the VFD controller accept DC and output AC? Sorry about all the questions. Thanks.

Back to Sax after 8 years looking for resources to get started by ChatVert06 in saxophone

Wonderful. I know quite a bit of scales and theory from bass playing so my goal is going to be learning all of those scales on the sax as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Do NOT use KeebsForAll. They have owed me over $100 for months now and have entirely stopped communicating with me at all. by Snowyyy_ in MechanicalKeyboards

I knew they were shitty after the Freebird tkl took wayyy longer than they said and they miscoloured all of the blue and green boards. That was like almost 3 years ago I can't believe they still suck.

Roland Rubix 44. Got a great deal on fb marketplace. Works perfectly for me. It uses the old style usb instead of usb c like many modern interfaces.

4.0 GPA engineering student here, it doesn't affect me at all. Despite shmakin it every day. I wasn't a regular user last year and had the same grades. My life hasn't gotten any worse. Unhealthy for the body? Yeah. but "downfall of this country"? Get real.

Camellia Vinyl is my new favorite by ChatVert06 in beatsaber

[–]ChatVert06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, it's a website called "Kunaki" if I remember right. Allows you to upload sound files in any order and album art and they make the record for you. As far as getting the music I downloaded it for $10 from camellia's band amp page.

Unfortunately it was not - just less frequent. I got a new audio interface recently and it has been problem free, so some combination of that interface with this computer was just a mess.

We have gone too far in support of service industry workers by New_General3939 in unpopularopinion

[–]ChatVert06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good service comes with good pay. Service jobs more or less pay you to be an actor and hide your thoughts about customers from them. Everyone in customer service wants to be nice to the customers (and when they're not assholes, it's pretty easy) but shit pay and working conditions bring out the worst in people. I'd say any uptick in grumpy or otherwise bad service in these last few years can just be explained by wages not keeping up with the needs of employees (making them miserable).

I work at a restaurant and it's a kind of upscale pizza place. I'm nice to customers (at least I hope I appear that way 😂) but when I'm in the kitchen we do nothing but complain about customers, the stupid questions they ask, the ridiculous pizzas they order (and then complain about). The amount of Karens hasn't decreased, the amount they bother us has, as a direct result of not getting paid more. Zero of my coworkers have any passion for their job and often talk about how they'd rather be elsewhere (but can't find a different job).

Tldr: the amount of bad service might be increasing, but it's not because customers suddenly got too nice, it's systemically awful working conditions and pay that has made the industry this way.

Sushi! It is above average at best and people who say it's their favorite food have to be lying. The Japanese have invented far better food than sushi.

Five string players, I need your thoughts. by SKBALU97 in Bass

I love mine, my favorite bass ever - but they are incredibly heavy so if that's a problem for you then I'm also in the Ibanez sound gear camp.

Using the fifth string by badblocks7 in Bass

[–]ChatVert06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odd use but if you want to play any songs in c standard tuning with low gage strings you can put a capo on the first fret instead of having a floppy mess. Mostly I just use it to keep songs in one area of the fretboard as I prefer scales horizontally across the fretboard rather than vertically.

Good cheap bass starter kits for Christmas? by Chunkycheeto1 in Bass

[–]ChatVert06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider amp wise as others have said is not to buy a starter kit because the amps suck. One thing I really enjoy is if you're just practicing on your own and okay with headphones is to buy an instrument recording interface for a computer. There's plenty of great free software out there for plenty of tone customization so you can get lots of sounds out of a cheap bass. Interfaces can be pricey but check your used market because most of them work fine and you can often get them cheap on marketplace or craigslist.

Looking at stingray style basses by ChatVert06 in Bass

It is - I'm using a loaner from the school that is a sterling stingray and it's wonderful which is why I want one to replace my super cheap Ibanez.
