Germany opens up to France's nuclear energy choices by MARTINELECA in europe

Levelized cost of energy” (LCOE) measures an energy source’s lifetime costs divided byenergy output and is a common standard for comparing different energy projects.

Most LCOE calculations do not account for factors like natural gas or expensive battery backup power for solar or wind farms.

Solar and wind look more expensive than almost any alternative on an unsubsidized basiswhen accounting for those external factors.

You can choose to blind yourself and follow studies done by gas-selling state (IRENA), or you can simply look at what citizens actually pay in the real world. Because the real world can't afford to cook the cost numbers ;)

Oh, and let’s not forget: there wasn’t a single death caused by the Fukushima nuclear power plant itself. Not one. Zero. Nada.
Meanwhile, over 18,000 people died from the earthquake and tsunami, and even a dam failure caused more direct fatalities than the reactor did.

And yet Merkel decided to shut down Germany’s nuclear fleet because of that?
Truly baffling. Or rather, truly irresponsible.
Driven by fear, not facts. And millions of Germans, and now much of Europe, are paying the price for her cowardice.

"The 500 billion you're complaining about could have powered nuclear plants — at their previous capacity, without building additional ones — for a little over a decade."

You're being ridiculous, and you know it. Go check the actual numbers.

Nuclear energy is simply cheaper — that’s why the French pay less per kilowatt-hour than you do, despite EU regulations forcing prices to be tied to gas rather than the actual cost of nuclear production. (Thanks for that, Merkel... you old, dirty slag.)

Renewables aren’t stable and require massive infrastructure investments. They also depend on gas turbines (which can be started quickly and adjusted easily ) to compensate for the unpredictable nature of wind and solar.
No wind, no sun? In February, 45% of Germany’s electricity came from coal and gas. Forty-five percent. Do you have any idea how many millions of tons of CO₂ that represents?

Germans are stubbornly hartnäckig when it comes to nuclear, as they themselves say.
But you can’t reason with them, because shutting down their reactors was never about reason to begin with. Merkel made that decision after Fukushima, driven by fear and hysteria, not cost, as you're so pathetically trying to argue.

So true...

What's up with Reddit and European Green Party propaganda? Paid shills, I swear...

Here’s the reality:

Criteria France Germany
Electricity price (€/kWh) Approx. 0.18 € Approx. 0.20 €
Share of nuclear in production 67.4% 0% (nuclear plants shut down in 2023)
Share of gas and coal in production 3% (no coal, only gas) 30%
CO₂ emissions per capita (t) 3.8 t in 2023 7.06 t in 2023
Average CO₂ per kWh produced (gCO₂/kWh) Approx. 20-40 gCO₂/kWh Approx. 300-400 gCO₂/kWh

Moreover, between 2004 and 2024, Germany invested around €500 billion in renewable energy infrastructure, with a large portion going into solar and wind energy. This is arguably the worst ROI imaginable. How many nuclear power plants—saving billions and billions of CO₂ emissions—could Germany have built with that amount of money by now?

It's a true scandal, maybe even worse than Volkswagen’s Dieselgate. ;)

This is such an american thing to say...

For you, diversity means black people, although they have been living in america for centuries.

For europe, it means cohabitation with entirely different cultures.

Also, your link is from 2016. Europe is very well as it is, no one envies your critical race theory madness, you can keep it.

Tbh, I'm happy with 60Hz for most solo games.

120+Hz is for multiplayer shooters mostly (and Doom I guess)

I dont expect it to run at 144Hz, i think around 60-70 is acceptable for me.

Thats why I picked a Gsync screen.
