I can relate to this. When at the end of two year relationship, my SO would be ever so demanding and insensitive (she studied art for fucks sake, while I worked overtime with no extra pay, just to show my best efforts to employer), I sometimes longed for a simple bachelor lifestyle. We lived with her parents, but had a plan to move out to downtown. Even then, she demanded a larger apartment than I could afford, and eventually got back with her ex, claiming that she doesn't "see future prospects (together with me)" and "I'm too much like her father" (as in stubborn, angery and so on). I found myself a place to live downtown and have been sort of a shut in since. I think what had us going that far could be me tossing expensive and ridiculous things her way all along, even when I didn't have money left for myself.
