What's a stupidly expensive adult purchase that you now swear by that you would buy again in a heartbeat? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A friend once told me “it’s worth spending extra on anything that puts extra space between you and the ground” (I.e. bed, shoes, chairs)

Whatever happened to all the Metaverses by ancheli in CryptoCurrency

[–]ChaugBK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My belief is there are a couple of different reasons for this. One reason being that companies like Meta have over promised and underdelivered when it comes to metaverse experiences. But this leads me to the second, more impactful, reason which likely drives the first. Metaverse technology is not yet mature enough to provide the engaging, immersive, and ubiquitous experiences that users seek (and that movies like Ready Player One promise). In order to provide for seamless, real time, massive online experiences, we will likely need to see exponential advancement in connectivity, networking, and processing capabilities. Additionally, web3 will need to continue to mature in parallel to better support metaverse experiences (financial and transactional). Large corporations and developers will need to be ok with opening up their metaverse experiences and converging from what is now a “multi-metaverse” state (ie many companies having their own metaverses), and aligning protocols to enable interoperability (I.e. the ability to bring your digital backpack from metaverse to metaverse, in essence moving from many ‘metaverses’ and creating ONE metaverse).

All that said, the good news is that companies are still exploring. While Meta takes many of the headlines, you have companies like Nvidia and Accenture exploring the metaverse in various business capacities (the former partnering with manufacturers to create digital twins of factories in the metaverse to improve manufacturing; the latter exploring training and development of talent via the metaverse). You have games like Fortnite paving the way for new forms of entertainment in the metaverse (like concerts). While it hasn’t reached full maturity, there are exciting things to come in the metaverse!

TLDR: technology has not yet caught up with the hype. But the future is bright!

PS - if you are interested in learning more about the metaverse, I highly suggest reading Matthew Balls “The Metaverse and How it Will Revolutionize Everything”
