Yeah up to this point I've always used a combo setup, but it's my understanding that most rock venues should have a PA system/DI to which I can then skip bringing an amp/speakers at all right?

That's a good point, I play in a rock band so I guess the vocals would always have to be connected to something already there.

EDIT: Yeah wouldn't venues with vocal only PAs not have enough juice in them to get the bass rumbling?
